Indulge Yourself in This Perfect Autumn Salad Posted by on Oct 24, 2015 in Arabic Language, Culture

Marhaba! Do you love Autumn? Well, I do. I always love Autumn recipes. Whether it is preparing pumpkin Kibbeh, pumpkin soup or a dozen other dishes, I enjoy cooking from different Autumn recipes. Today I am sharing a recipe that my wife and I use almost twice a week every single year during Autumn. We learned this from our mothers back in Lebanon. You would immediately realize from the ingredients that you could prepare this salad anytime of the year. However, our recommendation is to have it during Autumn.

It’s very easy to prepare and is an excellent side dish (or even main dish if you add turkey/chicken breast to the salad). As always, I have translated the recipe to Arabic! I am sure this helps with your learning! Make sure you try this easy recipe and share your results. Let us know how you and/or guests found it.

Ingredients:

  • 6 handful mixed lettuce leaves or spinach leaves
  • 1 medium slice of Brie cheese
  • 2 apples
  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp of honey
  • 2 cups of crushed walnuts or roasted almonds
  • 3 or 4 slices of turkey or chicken breast (if you want to have as a main dish)

Directions:

  • Add the handful of mixed lettuce and/or spinach leaves to a large bowl.
  • Cut the apples into small cubes and then add them to the bowl.
  • Grind walnuts (or roasted almonds) into some small pieces and then add to bowl.
  • Cut slice of Brie cheese into small cubes and add to bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and honey. If the sauce is too thick, use a bit of water.
  • Cut cooked slices of turkey or chicken breast into small pieces and add to salad if you want to have it as a main dish

Salam everyone! Born as an American to two originally Arab parents, I have been raised and have spent most of my life in Beirut, Lebanon. I have lived my good times and my bad times in Beirut. I was but a young child when I had to learn to share my toys and food with others as we hid from bombs and fighting during the Lebanese Civil War. I feel my connection to Arabic as both a language and culture is severing and so it is with you, my readers and fellow Arabic lovers, and through you that I wish to reestablish this connection by creating one for you.
