In this post, I present a listening comprehension exercise. Listen to the news story and answer the questions below. You can make use of the useful vocabulary provided to assist your comprehension.

Questions:

  1. What is the strength of the earthquake?
  2. When and where did the earthquake hit?
  3. Where were Tsunami waves expected?
  4. What was the outcome of the floods in Solomon’s Islands?
  5. How many people are still missing?

 

Useful Vocabulary:

زلزال  = earthquake

قوة = strength

المحيط الهادئ = the Pacific Ocean

هيئة المسح الجيولوجي الأميركية = U.S. Geological Survey

ألغى = cancelled

تحذير =  warning

موجات تسونامي = Tsunami waves

يُتوقع = expected

تعرض  ل  = experience

فيضانات = floods

اسفر عن  = resulted in

في عداد المفقودين = missing

الامطار الغزيرة = heavy rain
