English Kitchen – Homemade Chili and Detroit Coney Dogs Posted by on Nov 21, 2012 in English Vocabulary

With the cold winter coming, this video teaches you how to make some delicious homemade chili that’ll warm you right up. You can even use the chili to make yourself a Detroit style Coney hot dog. Learn some useful English vocabulary while you learn how to cook!

You will need a cutting board, measuring cups, a knife, a frying pan, and a slow cooker.

Here are the ingredients.

You will need two pounds of ground beef, a few cloves of garlic, a green pepper, a large onion, and two tomatoes.

You also need olive oil, chili powder, cumin, tabasco, black pepper, and two cans of red kidney beans.

Turn on your stove and fry the ground beef in a pan. Peel the garlic, mix up the beef, and cut and peel the onion. Slice the the onion, and slice the garlic. I’m not crying, it’s the onions! Slice the green pepper and tomato. Make sure to slice them all nice and thin. When the beef is brown, drain it. Then, drain the cans of beans. Add the beef to the slow cooker. Then add the beans, as well as all of the vegetables. Mix it up a little. Add 4 tablespoons of chili powder and one and a half teaspoons of cumin. Grind some black pepper in there as well. Add two teaspoons of salt, one tablespoon of olive oil, and four tablespoons of tabasco. Finally, add one half cup of water. Mix it up one more time. Set your slow cooker on low and wait for about seven hours.

When it’s ready, you can get started on the hot dogs. You will need hot dog buns, hot dogs, sliced onion, yellow mustard, and of course, your chili. Turn on the stove and fry up the hot dogs. When they are ready, place a hot dog in a bun, add some chili, onions, and yellow mustard. And there you have it – a Detroit coney hot dog.
