French Musical: “Le Roi Soleil” (“The Sun King”)

You have already discovered throughout the French Blog several “episodes” which make up l’histoire de France (the History of France), especially the history of the XVII siècle (the 17th century, of course.)
Today, we’ll evoke the “central figure” that dominated France during most of that century, namely Le Roi Soleil (the Sun King); not from une perspective historique, but rather a musical one.
The “Roi Soleil“, a play which started in 2005 starring Emmanuel Moire, enjoyed a considerable success in France—and beyond!

Ce que les autres attendent
What others expect
Et surmonter sa peur
And overcome one’s fear

Du commun des mortels
to the mere mortals
Pour chaque jour répondre à l’appel
To answer everyday the call
Et avoir à coeur
And to be intent on
D’être à la hauteur
Measuring up
C’est un devoir quotidien
It’s a daily duty
Un costume qu’il faut mettre
A suit that must be worn
Pour un rôle qui ne mène à rien
For a role that leads to nothing
Mais faut-il vraiment s’y soumettre,
But should one truly submit oneself?
Jusqu’à la fin ?
Till the end?
