Joyeux Ramadan and Joyeux National Holiday of La Suisse! :)

Today is a double celebration: The French Blog wishes you a Joyeux Ramadan and a joyeuse fête nationale Suisse !

We hope that this coïncidence de calendrier (calendar coincidence) will be especially significant, and serves to bring Swiss Muslims and all other Swiss people, de toutes les confessions (of all the faiths), closer together!

The *very special* couteau suisse (Swiss knife) that you see above can prove very useful to the people qui observent le jeûne du Ramadan (who fast during Ramadan), especially to those living in Europe who, due to work or studying circumstances, are left with no other choice but to eat “on the go” when it’s le coucher du soleil (sunset)!

After featuring the lyrics of la Marsellaise (France), and la Brabançonne (Belgium), today is the turn of “le Cantique suisse“, namely the French national anthem of la Suisse, which proudly highlights the paramount importance of la foi (faith) in the life of the mountainous country.

LE CANTIQUE SUISSE:

Sur nos monts, quand le soleil
On our mounts, when the Sun
Annonce un brillant réveil,
Announces a brilliant awakening
Et prédit d’un plus beau jour le retour
And predicts of a more beautiful day the return
Les beautés de la patrie
The beauties of the nation
Parlent à l’âme attendrie
Speak to the softened soul
Au ciel montent plus joyeux
To the sky rise happier
Les accents d’un cœur pieux
The accents of a pious heart
Les accents émus d’un cœur pieux
The moved accents of a pious heart
Lorsqu’un doux rayon du soir
When a soft ray of the night
Joue encore dans le bois noir
Plays still in the black wood
Le cœur se sent plus heureux près de Dieu
The heart feels happier close to God
Loin des vains bruits de la plaine
Afar from the vain noises of the plain
L’âme en paix est plus sereine
The soul in peace is more serene
Au ciel montent plus joyeux
To the sky rise happier
Les accents d’un cœur pieux
The accents of a pious heart
Les accents émus d’un cœur pieux
The moved accents of a pious heart
Lorsque dans la sombre nuit
When in the dark night
La foudre éclate avec bruit
The thunder strikes loudly
Notre cœur pressent encore le Dieu fort
Our heart senses the Mighty Lord
Dans l’orage et la détresse
In the thunderstorm and in distress
Il est notre forteresse
He is our fortress
Offrons-lui des cœurs pieux
Let us offer Him pious hearts
Dieu nous bénira des cieux
God shall bless us from the skies
Dieu nous bénira du haut des cieux
God shall bless us from above the skies
Des grands monts vient le secours
Of the high mounts comes the help
Suisse, espère en Dieu toujours !
Switzerland, have always faith in God!

Garde la foi des aïeux, Vis comme eux !

Keep the faith of the forbears, live like them!
Sur l’autel de la patrie
On the altar of the nation
Mets tes biens, ton cœur, ta vie !
Put your goods, your heart, your life!
C’est le trésor précieux
It is the precious treasure
Que Dieu bénira des cieux
May God bless you from the skies
Que Dieu bénira du haut des cieux
May God bless you from above the skies
