Dividable verbs – trennbare Verben Posted by on Jan 16, 2013 in Grammar, Language

Although January already is in the middle:

Happy new year to all of you!

I hope you had some nice Christmas days and a good start in 2013! For me it all began with moving to another apartment. That´s why I was a bit silent the last weeks…
I want to start with an exercise about dividable verbs. There are a lot of them in German. Here are some examples followed by example sentences with gaps. Try to fill the gaps with the right solutions. You can use the comment field for this if you want.

ab | fahren
ab | fallen

1. Der Zug _____ pünktlich nach Stuttgart _____. (abfahren)

2. Im Herbst _____ die Äpfel von den Bäumen _____. (abfallen)

3.  Der Student _____ in der Klausur vom Nachbarn _____. (abschreiben)

13. Hoffentlich _____ das Kind auf der Eisfläche nicht _____. (einbrechen)

16. Der Schüler _____ jeden Tag mit dem Bus _____. (heimfahren)

17. Viele Gäste _____ bereits sehr früh _____. (heimgehen)

I think now you know about the main principle of dividable verbs. Though there are even more! Here are some further examples of possible prefixes:

her | bringen
heraus|geben

hin | gucken
hinaus|gehen
hinein|fallen
los | fahren

About the Author: jan

My name is Jan and I live in the south west of Germany. My profession is being a project manager at a company that creates digital media (first of all internet related things). This is my job since over a decade so I´m quite familiar with the web and its tools. Whereat today almost every school kid does. But that´s one of the main reasons why nowadays there are quasi no more limits in the internet and so it can be used for all imaginable types of things. For example learning languages! And that´s where we are at the moment. I first got in touch with Transparent Language when my family and I used to live in France a couple of years ago. I just had a break from work and by coincidence I produced some cultural videos in French. A few months later the whole blogging thing came up and I was lucky to be a part of it. So now my (second) job is to feed you with information, exercises, vocabulary, grammar and stories about Germany and German language. For being a passionate videographer I´m trying to do this more and more by videos. If you have any wishes or needs of topics that should be treated here, please don´t hesitate to contact me via a comment field. I´m open to your suggestions (as long as they are not too individual) and will try to satisfy your needs.

Frohes neues Jahr und vielen Dank für Diene Hilfe. Ich finde die Artikel sehr interessant. Vielleicht kannst Du mehr Artikel über deutsche Musik und Kunst schreiben. Es wird mich sehr gefallen.
