In the early nineties, one of our most favorite movies was “Dead poets’ society” (“Ο Κύκλος των Χαμένων Ποιητών”, o kiklos ton hamenon peeeeton) . Tears were dropped, long discussions were made and a new perspective on life was surfaced. John Keating was the inspirational teacher all Greek students wanted to have at school and Robin Williams was strongly identified with his role.
Twenty-four years later, we are all shocked by the news: in August 11 Robin Williams has moved to Eternity. As a former teenager, I feel that a part of my life has followed him.
As a tribute, below there’s a list of five Robin Williams movie quotes translated in Greek.

1. World’s Greatest Dad,2009:
“Remember, suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem”

2. Good Will Hunting, 1997:
“Real loss is only possible when you love something more than you love yourself.”
Gia na katalaveis tin enia tis pragmatikis apolias tha prepei na agapiseis kati perisotero apo ton eafto sou.

3. Hook, 1991:
“Jack, Maggie, all you have to do is think one happy thought, and you’ll fly like me.”
Jack, Maggie, to mono pou ehete na kanete ine na skeftite kati efharisto kai tha petaxete san emena.

4. Dead Poets Society, 1989:

“Carpe diem, seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary.”
Carpe diem, arpaxte ti mera paidia, kante tis zoes sas exeretikes.

5. Patch Adams, (1998):
“The most radical act anyone can commit is to be happy.”
Ee pio rizospastiki praxi poy borei na kanei kaneis ine na eine eftihismenos.

  1. Susan:

I had a Greek friend I met online and one thing we did together was watch Robin Williams stand up comedy or movies. Can’t watch his movies now without thinking of my friend, even if we do not talk any longer. Such a loss to the world.
