If you are planning a vacation in Greece, this quiz might be of some use. You can check your knowledge and learn new phrases. It is suitable for beginners or pre-intermediate students. Enjoy!

Question 1: If someone asks you “τι κάνεις;” the right answer is:

α. Κάνω καλά, ευχαριστώ!

β. Είμαι καλά, ευχαριστώ!

Right answer

β. Είμαι καλά.

Although the question is formed using the verb κάνω, we answer by “είμαι”. The verb can be omitted. (“Τι κάνεις;” “Καλά, ευχαριστώ”)

Question 2: You need to find a bank. The right question is:

α. Μήπως υπάρχει καμία τράπεζα εδώ κοντά;

β. Μήπως είναι η τράπεζα εδώ κοντά;

Right answer

α. Μήπως υπάρχει καμία τράπεζα εδώ κοντά;

Υπάρχει means “there is”. This sentence is directly translated as “maybe there is a bank nearby?”

Question 3: You need a lift to the beach. The right question is:

α. Θα με πας στην παραλία, σε παρακαλώ;

β. Θα με οδηγήσεις στην παραλία, σε παρακαλώ;

α. Θα με πας στην παραλία, σε παρακαλώ;

The sentence “θα με οδηγήσεις στην παραλία, σε παρακαλώ;” means “will you lead me to the beach, please?”
Οδηγώ means “to drive” but if we want to say “drive to a place”, we use the verb πηγαίνω.

Question 4: You want to ask if a dish contains meat. The right question is:

α. Αυτό το φαγητό έχει κρέας;

β. Είναι κρέας μέσα στο φαγητό;

Right answer

α. Αυτό το φαγητό έχει κρέας;
Literally translated it means: “Does this food have meat?”

Question 5: You want to visit a place and need to know which road is faster. The right question is:

α. Ποια οδός είναι πιο γρήγορη;

β. Ποιος δρόμος είναι πιο γρήγορος;

Right answer

β. Ποιος δρόμος είναι πιο γρήγορος;

Οδός means street.
Example: Μένω στην οδό Σόλωνος. (I live on Solonos street)

Question 6: You want to post a parcel (δέμα) and need to know when it will be delivered. The right question is:

α. Πότε θα φτάσει; / Σε πόσες μέρες θα φτάσει;

β. Πότε θα είναι; / Σε πόσες μέρες θα είναι;

Right answer

α. Πότε θα φτάσει; / Σε πόσες μέρες θα φτάσει;

In direct translation:
When will it arrive? / In how many days will it arrive?

Question 7: You did some shopping and need to know the total amount due. What is the right question?

α. Πόσο κάνει;

β. Πόσο κάνουν όλα;

Right answer

β. Πόσο κάνουν όλα;

It means “how much does everything cost?” If you use the first sentence, people will still understand what you mean.

Question 8: You want to buy a ticket but cannot find the ticket counter. What is the right question?

α. Παρακαλώ, πού είναι τα εισιτήρια;

β. Παρακαλώ, πού είναι το ταμείο;

Right answer

β. Παρακαλώ, πού είναι το ταμείο;

Question 9: You want to know where you can get a taxi. The right question is:

α. Συγγνώμη, πού μπορώ να βρω ένα ταξί;

β. Συγγνώμη, πού είναι το ταξί;

Right answer

α. Συγγνώμη, που μπορώ να βρω ένα ταξί;

Excuse-me, where can I find a taxi?

Question 10: You want to know if the museum is open on Sunday. The right question is:

α. Το μουσείο είναι ανοιχτό την Κυριακή;

β. Είναι μουσείο την Κυριακή;

Right answer

α. Το μουσείο είναι ανοιχτό την Κυριακή;
It means: Is the museum open on Sunday?

    The correct answer for #2 is α, but you have listed it as “β” even though the phrase is that of the first.
