Correction of Incorrect Sentences Posted by on Mar 31, 2011 in Hindi Language

Do you know, what kind of mistakes might be there in your Hindi sentences? And, how to fix them?

Let me show you today, the types of mistakes that a sentence could have because of a incorrect use of any part of speech. Mistakes are underlined. English translation for the correct sentences are given.

The idea is to make you aware of the mistakes so you can avoid the same. It would be better idea if you can check your sentences on the basis of grammatical attributes which are given below.

1. लिंग (Ling) – Gender
Incorrect: मैंने यह पुस्तक देखा हूँ। Correct: मैंने यह पुस्तक देखी हैं।
English: I have seen this book.

2. वचन (Vachan) – Number
Incorrect: प्राण निकल गया। Correct: प्राण निकल गए।
English: Life is gone.

3. संज्ञा (Sangya) – Noun
Incorrect: शनिवार के दिन स्कूल बंद रहेगा। Correct: शनिवार को स्कूल बंद रहेगा।
English: The school will be closed on Saturday.

4. सर्वनाम (Sarvname) – Pronoun
Incorrect: तुम्हारे को यह काम नहीं करना चाहिए था। Correct: तुम्हें यह काम नहीं करना चाहिए था।
English: You should not have done this.

5. कारक (Karak) – Case
Incorrect: मैंने घर जाना हैं। Correct: मुझे घर जाना हैं।
English: I have to go home.

6. पुरुष (Purush) – Grammatic Person
Incorrect: मैं और तुम साथ-साथ खायेंगे। Correct: तुम और मैं साथ साथ खायेंगे।
English: You and me will take the dinner together.

7. विषेय-विशेषण (Vishy Visheshad) – Attributive Adjectives
Incorrect: हवा गरम चल रही है। Correct: गरम हवा चल रही है।
English: Warm wind is blowing.

8. क्रिया (Kriya) – Verb
Incorrect: सीता खाना माँगता है। Correct: सीता खाना माँगती है।
English: Sita wants food.

9. क्रिया-विशेषण (Kriya Visheshad) – Adverb
Incorrect: सारे दिन भर वह काम करता रहा। Correct: वह दिन भर काम करता रहा।
English: He was working for all day long.

10. अनावश्यक शब्दों के प्रयोग (Anayavashyak Shabdo ka Priyog) – Use of unnecessary words
Incorrect: सारे देश भर में ख़ुशी मनाई गयी। Correct: सारे देश में ख़ुशी मनाई गयी।
English: The whole country was celebrating.

    is this sentence correct…in english(the usage of hindi words)
    (jho cheez kismat mein hoti hai usko hum jitna bhi nafrat kare hamara peecha nahi chodthi!!!!)

      Sorry for the late response.

      The correct sentence will be:
      Jo cheez kismat/bhagya mein hoti hai usko hum jitni bhi nafrat karein wo hamara peecha nahi chodti. Or you can say, Jo cheez kismat/bhagya mein hoti hai usse hum jitna bhi bachne ki kosish/prayas kare wo hamara peecha nahi chodti.

    प्रत्येक घर में महिला गुड़, तिल, नारियल, मूंगफली की बनी हुई मिठाई तैयार करके, यह मिठाई दोस्तों और रिश्तेदारों मे वितरित की जाती हैं।

      प्रत्येक घर में महिला गुड़, तिल, नारियल और मूंगफली से मिठाइयाँ तैयार करती है जो कि दोस्तों और रिश्तेदारों मे वितरित की जाती हैं। Or you can say it like, प्रत्येक घर में महिला गुड़, तिल, नारियल और मूंगफली से मिठाइयाँ बनाती है जो कि दोस्तों और रिश्तेदारों मे बांटी जाती हैं।
