Formation of Complex Sentences in Hindi

In this post, we will understand what are the complex sentence (मिश्रित वाक्यMishrit Vaakya) and how to form a complex sentence from a simple (सरल वाक्यSaadhaaran Vaakya) or a compound sentence (संयुक्त वाक्यSaadhaaran Vaakya) in Hindi.

1. सरल वाक्य से मिश्रित वाक्य (Simple Sentence to Complex Sentence)

The simple sentence consist an independent clause (अनुच्छेदAnuchched) and no dependent clause in its sentence structure.

To form a complex sentence from a simple sentence, two clauses are made from the simple sentence and then joined together with a conjunction. Take a note of the following sentences,

उदाहरण - Udhaaran - Example 1.
Simple Sentence: राकेश ने अपने मित्र का घर ख़रीदा। (Rajesh brought his friend’s house.)
Complex Sentence: राकेश ने वो घर ख़रीदा जो उसके मित्र का था। (Rajesh brought that house which belonged to his friend.)

उदाहरण – Udhaaran - Example 2.
Simple Sentence: परिश्रमी व्यक्ति अवश्य सफल होते हैं। (Hard worker will be successful.)
Complex sentence : जो व्यक्ति परिश्रमी होती हैं, वे अवश्य सफल होते हैं। (People, who are hard worker, are successful.)

2. संयुक्त वाक्य से मिश्रित वाक्य (Compound Sentence to Complex Sentence)

The compound sentences usually have a sentence structure which consist of two independent clause. These sentences make use of conjunctions with or without comma such ”और “,  (Aur - And), “लेकिन” (Lekin – But) ,  etc.

To form a complex sentence from a compound sentence, a clause from the compound sentence is made the main clause and another clause is made the dependent clause. Take notice of the following sentences,

उदाहरण - Udhaaran -Example 1.
Compound Sentence: अशोक एक महान सम्राट था और वह बौद्ध धर्म का अनुयायी था। (Ashoka was a great emperor and he was a follower of Buddhism.)
Complex sentence : अशोक, जो महान सम्राट था बौद्ध धर्म का अनुयायी था। (Ashoka, who was a great emperor was a follower of Buddhism.)

उदाहरण - Udhaaran - Example 2.
Compound Sentence: वह मकान तीन मंजिला है और वहाँ तीन परिवार रहते हैं। (The house is three stories high and three family live there.)
Complex Sentence: जो मकान तीन मंजिला है, उसमें तीन परिवार रहते हैं। ( The house which is three stories high, is home of three family.)
