In Hindi, there are some synonyms which keep on repeating and repeating and must be learnt in order to understand the context of the conversation or literature. Some of the nouns and their synonyms are also used to name a child i.e. a girl (Nisha, Komal) or boy (Surya, Anand) and could be used to understand the entomology of a word.

Let me share some of the important synonyms in Hindi with you. The synonyms are given in Devanagari script as well as the romanized script in italic. English translations are also given in the respective brackets. Hope you’ll learn some new vocabulary through these synonyms.

1. ईश्वर (Ishwar – God) =  भगवान् (Bhagvaan), परमात्मा (Parmaatma), जगदीश (Jagdish)

2. आनंद (Anand – Happiness) = उल्लास (Ullaas), प्रसन्नता (Prasannta), हर्ष (Harsh)

3. कोमल (Komal – Soft) = नर्म (Narm), मुलायम (Mulayam)

4. घर (Ghar – Home) = भवन (Bhavan), सदन (Sadan), गृह (Ghrah)

5. इच्छा (Iccha – Desire) = कामना (Kaamana), लालसा (Laalasa), अभिलाषा (Abhilaasha)

6. दिन (DinDay) = दिवस (Divas), वार (Vaar), वासर (Vaasar)

6. शरीर (Sharir – Body) = तन (Tan), देह (Deh), काया (Kaaya)

7. अपमान (Apamaan – Insult) = निरादर (Niraadar), तिरस्कार (Tiraskaar),

8. अवहेलना (Avahelana) = अपमान (Apmaan), तिरस्कार (Tiraskaar), निरादर (Niraadar)

9. माता (Mata – Mother) = माँ (Maa), अम्बा (Amba), जननी (Janani)

10.प्रकाश (Prakash – Light) = चमक (Chamak), प्रभा (Prabha), ज्योति (Jyoti)

11.स्त्री (Stri – Woman) = महिला (Mahila), औरत (Aaurat), नारी (Naari)

12.पुत्र (Putr – Son) = बेटा (Beta), सुत (Sut)

13.नेत्र (Natr – Eye) = आँख (Aankh), नयन (Nayan), चक्षु (Chakshu)

14.रात (Raat – Night) = निशा (Nisha), रात्रि (Raatri), रजनी (Rajani)

15.सूर्य (Surya – Sun) = सूरज (Suraj), रवि (Ravi), दिनकर (Dinkar)

16.मनुष्य (Manushy – Human Being) = जन (Jan), मानव (Maanav)

17.मित्र (Mitr – Friend) = दोस्त (Dost), मीत (Mit), सखा (Sakha)
