Krishna Janmashtami (कृष्ण जन्माष्टमी) celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna (कृष्ण). This year the festival will be celebrated in early September. Different regions place emphasis on different activities. In Tamil Nadu, the women make rice flour drawings on the ground. The drawings are thought to bring good luck to the household. My hands are way too unsteady and awkward to do this, but maybe you’ll have better luck with your own rice flour drawing. This video shows you how :

In Maharashtra (महाराष्ट्र) the tradition is to build a human pyramid. There are some really tense moments, especially when people start to reach the top. At any moment, anyone can fall, but when someone finally reaches the top, there’s a sigh of relief.
