Section 3: General Knowledge.
It was the first capital city of the newly unified Regno d’Italia in 1861 (Torino, Milano, Firenze, Roma)
Famous poet, he wrote a Canzoniere (a book of poetry) dedicated to his beloved Laura. He is considered one of the fathers of the Italian language (Giovanni Boccaccio, Francesco Petrarca, Dante Alighieri, Alessandro Manzoni)
Famous scientist from Pisa, he invented the telescope, which he used for several astronomical discoveries, amongst which are sunspots, and the four largest satellites of the planet Jupiter. He was condemned for heresy by the Catholic Church (Galilei, Aristotele, Cheplero, Copernico)
In almost every Italian town you’ll find a monument dedicated to this famous leader. With the help of a thousand volunteers dressed in red shirts he threw out the Borbones from il Regno delle Due Sicilie (Giuseppe Mazzini, Giuseppe Verdi, Giuseppe Garibaldi, Vittorio Emanuele)
Musician born in Lucca in 1858, he wrote many operas. Amongst his numerous memorable arias is a well know chorus which is sung with the mouth shut! (Giovanni Bellini, Giuseppe Verdi, Luigi Boccherini, Giacomo Puccini)

In response to your sad plea, yes there are lots of us out here, like myself and my colleagues in a small Italian learners’ group in the Midlands, checking every day, hoping for a new post from you.
We thoroughly enjoy your tales, whether anecdotal, stereotypical or personal, and always find your topics and tests of benefit – perhaps to revise things we ought to have remembered, or to discover something new. You are so adept at identifying the English learning perspective on the ‘bella lingua’ and providing excellent translations.
As an example, your post about describing people/oneself gave us a fun theme for one of our weekly meetings. We first described ourselves (with a sizable dose of humour), then chose a portrait, from a collection I brought along, to describe. From that flowed a “tell their story” imaginative writing challenge.

Non ti preoccupare, non sei l’uovo marcio te! Se ce la fai, c’è ancora tempo per darci le tue risposte al quiz.
Comunque, grazie infinite per il tuo gentile commento. Una cosa strana che abbiamo notato negli ultimi 7 anni in cui scriviamo questo blog è che i commenti arrivano molto sporadicamente, cioè, a volte siamo quasi inondati di risposte e poi passano settimane di ‘siccità. Ed è difficile capire il perché!
Essendo uno che ritiene molto importante il rapporto fra lo studente e l’insegnate per capire come sviluppare quello che scrivo per voi, nostri lettori, quando mi manca il ‘feedback’ dagli studenti mi sento un po’ ‘perso’.
Ecco perché i commenti sono così importanti, voglio essere sicuro che quello che scriviamo è il più utile possibile ai nostri lettori.
