Una Canzone per tutti i Papà Posted by on Mar 19, 2015 in Uncategorized

with English translation by Geoff

Ci svegliavi con un bacio e poi
te ne andavi a letto mentre noi
correvamo in quella scuola che
ci dicevi insegna a vivere,
ma la vita l’hai insegnata tu
ogni giorno un po’ di più
con quegli occhi innamorati tuoi
di due figlie matte come noi.

You would wake us up with a kiss and then
go to bed while we ran to that school
that you told us would teach us about life,
but it was you who taught us about life
every day a littler more
with those eyes of yours, in love
with two crazy daughters like us.

Cosa non darei
perché il tempo
non ci invecchi mai.

What I wouldn’t give
to stop time
from ever ageing us.

Ho imparato a
cantare insieme a te
nelle sere d’estate nei caffè,
ho imparato il mio coraggio
e ho diviso la strada e l’allegria,
la tua forza e la tua malinconia,
ogni istante ogni miraggio.
Per le feste tu non c’eri mai
mamma apriva i pacchi insieme a noi
il lavoro ti portava via
la tua solitudine era mia.

I learnt to sing with you
during the summer evenings in the cafes,
I learnt my courage
and I shared the road and the happiness,
your strength and your sadness,
every instant every mirage.
You were never at the parties
mother opened the presents with us
your work took you away
your loneliness was mine

Cosa non farei
per ridarti il tempo perso ormai.

What I wouldn’t do
To give you back the lost time.

Ho imparato ad amare come te
questa vita rischiando tutta me,
ho imparato il tuo coraggio
e ho capito la timida follia
del tuo essere unico perché
sei la meta del mio viaggio per me,
e così sempre di più
somiglio a te
nei tuoi sorrisi e nelle lacrime.

I’ve learnt to love this life
like you, risking my all,
I’ve learnt your courage
and I’ve understood the shy madness
of your unique being because
for me, you are the goal of my journey,
and so more and more
I resemble you
in your smiles and your tears

Ho imparato il tuo coraggio
e ho imparato ad amare e credere
nella vita rischiando tutta me
e ho diviso questo viaggio con te,
io con te
ho imparato il mio coraggio.
Mi risveglio in questa casa mia
penso a quando te ne andavi via
e anche adesso cosa non farei
per ridarci il tempo perso ormai.

I’ve learnt your courage
and I’ve learnt to love and believe
in life, risking my all
and I’ve shared this journey with you,
me with you
I’ve learnt my courage.
I wake again in this house of mine
thinking of when you went away
and even now what I wouldn’t do
to give us back the lost time

N.B. you may have noticed that ho imparato, ho diviso, etc. can either be translated as ‘I learnt’, ‘I shared’, or I’ve learnt’, I’ve shared’, depending on the context.
