Traveling to Japan???

 

Here is the second series of “Are you into Kanji?”.  I received some feedback from my first post on this, asking me to write again for the next one.

In my next article of “Are you into Kanji?”, I decided to cover some important Kanji’s for travelers who are heading over to Japan. So, here they are, these are the top 12 must know Kanji’s in my opinion.

 

１．航空券（こうくうけん,  koukuken）-Plane ticket

This is the first thing you need to purchase, your plane ticket to Japan.

 

2.   　予約　（よやく, yoyaku）-reservation

You might be asked to show your 予約 at the ticket counter.

私の予約は　これです。（わたしの　よやくは　これです。）

Watashi no yoyaku wa kore desu. – Here is my reservation.

 

3.  　荷物　（にもつ, nimotsu） – Luggage

手荷物＝＝＞(てにもつ, tenimotsu )- carry on luggage

預ける荷物＝＝＞（あずける　にもつ, azukeru nimotsu）-check in luggage

 

4. 　 飛行機　（ひこうき, hikouki）-Airplane

 

 

5. 　機内食　（きないしょく, kinaishoku）-In-flight meal

 

 

6. 　入国審査　（にゅうこくしんさ, nyukoku shinsa）-Passport control, immigraton

 

 

7.　税関　（ぜいかん, zeikan）-Customs

 

 

8.　外国人　（がいこくじん, gaikokujin）-foreigner

Don’t be nervous at the immigration once you arrive in Japan. The lines for 外国人 might be a bit longer.

 

9.     日本人　（にほんじん, nihonjin）-Japanese

 

10.   交通機関　（こうつうきかん, Koutsukikan）-transportation

You will see many selections for  交通機関 , such as.

バス　 (bus)

タクシー (taxi)

電車 (densha, train)

地下鉄 (chikatetsu, subway)

 

11. 国内線　（こくないせん、kokunaisen）-domestic flights

 

12. 国際線　（こくさいせん、kokusaisen）-international flights

 

If you know the above 12 Kanji’s, I guarantee that you will survive getting around the airport in Japan. Just kidding.. 🙂 well there are enough English signs around at any airport these days, but you know?,  it won’t hurt to know these Kanji’s as well. So, let’s get these Kanji’s down and you will enjoy even more traveling to Japan with a bit more Kanji knowledge.
