Today, you are going to learn how to say “Don’t” in Korean. There are a few ways to say it in Korean. Let’s learn all of them today. The grammar point is “V.S. + 지 말다.” There are three ways to say.

1. Polite: 지 마세요/ji ma sae yo

2. Please don’t: 지 말아 주세요/ ji mal a joo sae yo

3. casual: 지 마(요)/ ji ma (yo).

Please read some examples below.

We are waiting for Mr. Kim, so don’t start now/ 김 선생님을 기다리고 있으니까 지금 시작하지 마세요.

Please don’t read so fast / 빨리 읽지 말아 주세요.

Don’t / 하지마세요!  하지마요!  하지마!  (하지마 is informal)

Don’t stare at me / 쳐다보지마세요! 쳐다보지마요! 쳐다보지말아주세요!  쳐다 보지마(informal)!

Don’t interrupt me / 방해하지 마세요! 방해하지 말아주세요!

I always recommend my students learning informal for ONLY listening because they can be rude in improper situation.
