Iconic Korean Products Posted by on Jul 5, 2010 in Uncategorized

If you’ve stayed in South Korea for quite some time, you’ve probably seen these Korean products. These products can be found in every convenience store in Korea :

Choco Pie (초코파이)  is a snack where the exterior is covered with chocolate and the interior is filled with marshmallow filling. Some people freeze the choco pie and eat it like an ice cream snack. The snack is made by Orion (오리온) and sold in countries like China, Vietnam and the U.S. The Choco Pies are packaged individually and typically sold in a large rectangular box.

Melona (메로나) is a light green melon flavored frozen creamsicle. There are other flavors such as strawberry, mango and banana, but the most iconic flavor is honeydew melon. Melona is sold in the U.S., Canada and Australia. Although the product name is called Melona, some Koreans refer to it as Melonbar (메론바).

Yagurutu (야쿠르트) is a yogurt-like drink made by fermenting milk and a strain of bacteria. The most iconic version of this small drink comes in a small plastic bottle with a red sealed top. You can either take the wrapper off the top of the drink or poke a straw through the wrapper. There are newer versions of this drink in banana and strawberry flavors.

Choco-Pie was my favorite snack, but when I knew that it contains gelatin obtained from pigs, I stopped eat it because Muslim people don’t eat any food contains gelatin obtained from pigs or extracted and processed from pig skin.
I hoped that it doesn’t have any gelatin obtained from pigs 🙁
