When one of your friends or someone from the family is getting married, you may need/want to congratulate them in your (or their) language. If this language happens to be Polish, here are some useful phrases I put together:

Gratuluję zaręczyn!

(Congratulations on your engagement! – Standard phrase used to congratulate someone on their engagement)

Życzę Wam wszystkiego, co najlepsze na nadchodzącej drodze życia

(Wishing both of you all the best on your engagement and everything lies ahead. – Used when congratulating a recently engaged-couple)

Gratulacje z okazji zaręczyn! Życzę Wam, abyście zawsze byli szczęśliwi.

(Congratulations on your engagement. I hope you will both be very happy together. – Used when congratulating a recently engaged-couple)

Gratulacje z okazji zaręczyn! Życzę Wam, abyście zawsze byli razem tak szczęśliwi, jak teraz.

(Congratulations on your engagement. I hope you will make each other extremely happy like you are now – Used when congratulating a recently engaged-couple)

Gratuluję zaręczyn! Czy już wyznaczyliście datę ślubu?

(Congratulations on your engagement. Have you decided upon big day yet? – Used when congratulating a recently engaged-couple who you know well, and to ask when the wedding will take place)

Gratulujemy! Życzymy Wam wszystkiego, co najlepsze!

(Congratulations. Wishing the both of you all the happiness in the world. – Used when congratulating a recently-married couple)

Gratulacje i najlepsze życzenia w dniu ślubu!

Wszystkiego najlepszego na nowej drodze życia!

(Congratulations on tying the knot and everything the best in this new chapter of your life! – Informal, used when congratulating a recently married-couple that you know quite well)

Gratulacje z okazji wypowiedzenia sakramentalnego “tak”!

(Congratulations on saying your “I do’s”! – Informal, used when congratulating a recently married-couple that you know quite well)

Gratulacje młodej parze i szczęścia na wspólnej drodze życia!

Do następnego razu… (Till next time…)

About the Author: Kasia

My name is Kasia Scontsas. I grew near Lublin, Poland and moved to Warsaw to study International Business. I have passion for languages: any languages! Currently I live in New Hampshire. I enjoy skiing, kayaking, biking and paddle boarding. My husband speaks a little Polish, but our daughters are fluent in it! I wanted to make sure that they can communicate with their Polish relatives in our native language. Teaching them Polish since they were born was the best thing I could have given them! I have been writing about learning Polish language and culture for Transparent Language’s Polish Blog since 2010.
