Polish sayings about January Posted by on Jan 30, 2013 in Nature, Phrases

Today I have a poem about te month of January, as well as some popular Polish sayings about this month for you:)

Styczeń

“Styczeń” – Ficowski Jerzy (“January” by Ficowski Jerzy)

Nowy Rok zawitał wreszcie

 stary sobie poszedł.

Co tam rośnie w mrozach stycznia?

 Dzień rośnie po trosze!

 Wróbelkowi serce rośnie,

 że wiosny doczeka,

 chociaż jeszcze droga do niej

 mroźna i daleka.

 Rosną w styczniu zaspy śniegu,

 że wóz w nich ugrzęźnie

 a na szybach rosną srebrne

 liście i gałęzie.

 Więc na inne pory roku,

 nie patrzy zazdrośnie

mroźny styczeń: bo w nim także

 mnóstwo rzeczy rośnie!

New Year finally arrived

old one went  away.

What are you growing frosty January?

Day grows a little!

Sparrow’s heart grows

that spring will see,

even though the road to it

cold and distant.

Snow drifts grow in January

that the car bogged down in them

and the windows are growing silver

leafs and branches.

So  frosty January in other seasons

is  not looking jealously

because it also has a lot of things growing!

Gdy styczeń burzliwy z śniegami, lato burzliwe z deszczami

When it snows a lot in January, summer brings a lot of rain.

Na Nowy Rok pogoda, będzie w polu uroda.

Nice weather in New Year brings great fields.

Na Trzech Króli słońce świeci, wiosna do nas pędem leci.

When sun is shining on the day of “Three Kings”, spring is rushing to us.

Nowy Rok pogodny, zbiór będzie dorodny.

New Year cheerful, collection will be great.

Kiedy w styczniu rośnie trawa, licha w lecie jest potrawa.

When the grass grows in January, there will be not much on the fields in the summer.

Kiedy w styczniu lato, w lecie zima za to.

When summer in January, winter in the summer for it.

Do następnego razu… (Till next time…)

I wanted to make sure that they can communicate with their Polish relatives in our native language. Teaching them Polish since they were born was the best thing I could have given them! I have been writing about learning Polish language and culture for Transparent Language’s Polish Blog since 2010.
