Beth’s Tuna Patê! Posted by on Mar 5, 2012 in Uncategorized

A patê is a kind of paste of puree and you can make it with virtually anything. Here in Brazil we use a solid ingredient, ranging from vegetables, cooked meat, fish, and also use mayonnaise or creme de leite (fresh milk cream) to mix it all up.

Early in January I was at a friend’s birthday and my good friend Beth Penof volunteered to make her tuna patê. I thought it was a great opportunity to show you guys how to make this great appetizer; you can eat patê with whatever you want and we usually eat it with toasts, bread, as a garnish for meat, etc. Check out the recipe and some cool vocabulary below.

P.S. As you can see, our friend Giuliano says, at the end, that we need to have beer to make it all better! Enjoy!

cumbuca – bowl. I use the diminutive, cumbuquinha.
lata de atum – a can of tuna
cebola picadinha – chopped up onion
azeite de oliva extra virgem – extra virgin olive oil
pode colocar à vontade – you can pour it as you wish
no olhômetro – without a fixed measure. Literally it is an “eye-ometer”.
shoyu – soy sauce
maionese – mayonnaise
creme de leite – fresh milk cream
uma colher de sopa bem generosa – a very “generous” soupspoon
