Olá, pessoal!

On the 24th we are going to have the Oscars, so I thought, “Why not share this year’s movie titles in Portuguese?”. As you may imagine, oftentimes the literal translation doesn’t apply and many adaptations are made.

So check out this year’s nominees and practice your pronunciation too!

A group of bloggers and comedians got together to start a new online comedy series called Porta dos Fundos (The Back Door). The episodes are very funny, though some have mature content. Two of the recent episodes are more PG-13 (though irreverent), so let’s have a look:

In this episode, one character pitches the Bible for a movie, and the other character suggests changes. Watch the video and see if you can answer the questions.

Now that the novela Avenida Brasil has come to an end, a new one has begun called Salve Jorge. This time, the novela takes on different themes: international human trafficking and the pacification of Rio’s favelas.

As TV Press explains:

Na trama, o mito de São Jorge funciona como ponto de encontro entre a Turquia e o Morro do Alemão, localizado na Zona Norte do Rio de Janeiro. Com agilidade, a produção se sai bem ao misturar cenas ficcionais e reais da pacificação da comunidade, ocorrida no ano passado. No entanto, as imagens e a abordagem da Turquia lembram muito o que foi mostrado em Caminho das Índias, o que deixa no telespectador a inevitável sensação de “déjà vu”. Elo intensificado pelo sotaque e a atuação de nomes como Antonio Calloni e Jandira Martini, ainda muito próximos de seus personagens na trama passada.
