Brazil Documentary Online

I found this neat little documentary, which is available for free on YouTube, called Caboclos de um Brasil Caboclo. A caboclo is a Brazilian of indigenous and European descent, and this short film discusses Brazilian religious traditions that combine indigenous, African, and European influences.

Samba da Vela Documentary

Though many foreigners assume Rio de Janeiro is where samba thrives, São Paulo is also a great place to hear one of Brazil’s most beloved musical forms. I found a neat little documentary about samba da vela, or candle samba, and the community that has grown around it in the Santo Amaro neighborhood of São Paulo. I’ve also found a video of a well known singer, Diogo Nogueira, singing with the group below.

Documentary: Curitiba Living

Here’s a great video for intermediate speakers, since there are subtitles and the narrator speaks in English. It’s a fantastic short documentary about Curitiba and its high quality of life, due largely to excellent city planning and making people–not cars–a priority.
