Grammar in Songs – Present Subjunctive with Ya Lo Sabía (Thalía) Posted by on Oct 29, 2010 in Spanish Culture

¡Hola!

Ni aunque me ruegues – Not even if you pray
Ni aunque me llores – Not even if you cry
Ni aunque me busques – Not even if you look for me
Ni aunque me implores – Not even if you beg
Ni aunque me prendas mil veladoras – Not even if you light a thousand candles
Me prometas que aún me adoras – And promise that you still love me
Ni con promesas, ni con los años – Not even with promises or the years
Voy a olvidarme de tus engaños – I’m going to forget your deception
Ni con el oro de todo el mundo – Not even with all the gold in the world
Vas a borrar este dolor profundo – Will you erase all this deep pain

Sí, yo ya lo sabía – Yes, I already knew it
Que estabas tú con alguien pero no me lo creía – That you were with someone else but I didn’t believe it
Sí, yo ya lo sabía – Yes, I already knew it
Mirabas en mis ojos pero ya no me veías – You looked into my eyes but you didn’t see me
Sí, yo ya lo sabía – Yes, I already knew it
Pensé que me querías pero no te conocía – I thought you love me but I didn’t know you
Sí, yo ya lo sabía – Yes, I already knew it
Ya lo sabía, ya lo sabía – I already knew it, I already knew it

Ni aunque tú sufras – Even if you suffer
Ni aunque revientes – Even if you blow up
Ni aunque de una torre te avientes – Even if you throw yourself off a tower
Ya está acabado, se ha terminado – It’s over and done with
No me imagines más a tu lado – Don’t think of me by your side anymore
Ahora regresas, ahora te quejas – Now you come back, now you complain
Sales con otras, luego las dejas – You go out with other woman, then dump them
Yo te quería, tú te reías – I loved you, you laughed
Yo no me río, pero podría – I don’t laugh, but I could

Y mis instintos me lo decían – And my instincts would tell me
Y las alarmas siempre estaban encendidas – And all alarms were turned on
Y me decían todos los días – And they would tell me every day
Cuidado todo todo lo que dices son mentiras – To be careful because everything you said were lies

Espero que les haya gustado. Nos vemos prontito.

  1. DUSSAN:

me encanta esta cancion.. es muy pegajosa y con el mensaje de seguir adelante.. y perfecta para aprender el español

  2. Jules:

Ni aunque me ruegues – Not even if you pray

I think rueges is beg or request. From rogar.

not even if you ask for me or beg for me is appropriate I think?

  3. Jules:

Although I believe rogar can also be used as to pray, i have a little doubt that me rueges suggests to pray? But I’m not a native speaker so I can’t figure out if I’m wrong or not. I’m a little confused! 🙂

    Thank you!

  4. Gabriela:

Thank you! I love her!!! Thalia rules!!!

  5. Tom:

I agree. Rezir, or orar, to pray. Rogar to request….or suplicar to beg. Spanish is not my primary language.

  6. David Carmona:

“Rogar” can also mean “to pray for something”, but not in this context; only when directed at a divinity. When addressing a person, it means “to beg”.
