Oftentimes we need to help friends, lend an ear and even cheer them up when they are not feeling to cheerful. That is what we are going to learn how to do in Spanish today: levantarle el ánimo a alguien!

Levantándole el ánimo a alguien – Cheering people up

No te preocupes por eso. – Don’t worry about that.
¿Por qué no te desahogas? – Why don’t you get if off your chest?
Todos se sienten así a veces. – Everybody feels that way at first.
No hay motivo para que te sientas así. – There’s no reason for you to feel like that.
Trata de hacerlo y verás que lo consigues. – You can do it if you only try.
No tienes que desesperarte. Las cosas van a mejorar. – Hang on in there! Things will get better.
¡Arriba con ese ánimo! No tienes porqué sentirte así. – Cheer up! There’s no need to feel like this.

Making compliments, hacer cumplidos, is also a very good way to cheer people up. Here are some suggestions:

¡Muy bien! – Well done!
¡Buen trabajo! – Good job!
¡Te felicito! – Congratulations!
¡Sique así! – Keep up the good work!
¡Es así que debe hacerse! – That’s the way you do it!
¡Te has desempeñado muy bien! – You’ve done really good!
¡Tu español es muy bueno! – Your Spanish is very good!
Hablas español super bien. – You speak Spanish really well.
¡Qué bien se te ve! – You look great!
Ese vestido te sienta muy bien. – You look beautiful in that dress.
Qué lindo tienes el cabello. ¿Qué te has hecho? – Your hair looks nice. Have you done something to it?
¡Qué bonita que estás! ¡Lo bonita que estás! – You look gorgeous!
Tu departamento / casa es muy bonito(a). – You have a beautiful apartment / house.
