El tiempo es algo de lo que hablando comúnmente en cualquier situación, con nuestra familia, amigos, con un vecino en el ascensor,… De ahí que sea algo importante para aprender. En nivel avanzado, supongo que ya conocéis las formas básicas de hablar sobre el tiempo. Hoy vamos a ver vocabulario algo más complicado, pero que los hispanohablantes usamos regularmente.

Empecemos con el vocabulario básico:

Hace sol: it is sunny

Está nublado: it is cloudy

Hace calor: it is hot

Hace frío: it is cold

Hace viento: it is windy

Hay niebla: it is foggy

Llover: to rain

Llueve: it rains

Está lloviendo: it is raining

La lluvia: the rain

Nevar: to snow

Nieva: it snows

Está nevando: it is snowing

La nieve: the snow

La temperatura: temperature

Hace ….. grados: it is ….. degrees

Hace veinte grados: it is twenty degrees

Hace buen tiempo/Hace bueno: the weather is good

Hace mal tiempo/Hace malo: the weather is bad

Hay/Hace tormenta: it is stormy

Ahora vamos a ver vocabulario del tiempo que tal vez no conozcáis:

El tiempo revuelto: unsettled weather

El trueno: thunder

El rayo/El relámpago: lightning

El chaparrón/El aguacero: downpour

Granizar: to hail

Graniza: it hails

Está granizando: it is hailing

El granizo: hail stone

La escarcha: frost

Helar: to frost

Deshelar: to thaw

Congelado/a: frozen

La noche helada: frosty night

La nevada: snowfall

La bola de nieve: snowball

Las inundaciones: floods

El terremoto: earthquake

El maremoto: seaquake

El huracán: hurricane

El día caluroso: hot day

El cielo despejado: clear sky

Hace bochorno: it is muggy, it is sultry

Hace fresco: it is fresh, it is chilly

Subir: to rise

Bajar: to drop

Las temperaturas están subiendo: temperatures are rising

Las temperaturas están bajando: temperatures are dropping

Bajo cero: below zero

Hace diez grados bajo cero: it is ten degrees below zero

Húmedo: humid

Humedad: humidity

La brisa: breeze

La brisa marina: sea breeze

El vendaval: gale

El temporal: storm

Nubes y claros: cloudy with sunny spells

Cielo nuboso: cloudy sky

Nubosidad: cloudiness

Nubosidad variable: patchy cloud

El nubarrón: thundercloud

La ola de calor: heat wave

Altas presiones: high pressure

Bajas presiones: low pressure

El anticiclón: area of high pressure

La borrasca: area of low pressure

Las precipitaciones: precipitation, rainfall

La ventisca: snowstorm, blizzard

La neblina: mist

La bruma: sea mist

Ahora vamos a ver algunas expresiones sobre el tiempo:

¡Hace un frío que pela!: It is freezing cold

¡Está jarreando!/ ¡Está cayendo una…! : It is pouring down

¡Me estoy asando!: I am boiling hot

¡Me estoy congelando!: I am freezing cold
