Homonyms are words you spell and pronounce in the same way but they have different meanings. So be careful! We have homonyms in every language.

  • eka

Kalle sitter och fiskar in en eka som han har själv byggt. (Kalle is sitting and fishing in his boat that he made himself.)

Jag hör ännu dina ord eka i mitt huvud. (I still hear your words echoing in my head.)

  • drag

Bra isolering gör att det inte uppstår drag vid fönstret. (Good isolation does that there is no draught/draft by the window.)

Vi spelar schack varje söndag och Kent gjorde sitt bästa drag hittils. (We play chess on every Sunday and Kent did her best move/stroke so far.)

Hennes barn är halvlibaneser och halvryssar. De har vackra drag. (Her kids are half Lebanese and half Russians. They have beautiful features.)

Att fiska aborre och gädda händer inte med samma drag. (To fish perch and pike will not happen with the same hook

  • tärna

I våras såg jag en tärna vid sjön utanför vår sommarstuga. (Last spring I saw a sea swallow at the lake outside of our summer cottage)

Jessica frågade sin bästa vän om hon ville bli hennes tärna på bröllopet. (Jessica asked her best friend if she wanted to be her bridesmaid on the weeding.) * it is also common to say brudtärna

Tärna kycklingen i småbitar sen fräs dem i olja! (Dice the chicken into small pieces and fry them in oil.) *dice is a homonym in English by the way
