Nationalities (<\/span>\u062c\u0650\u0646\u0652\u0633\u0650\u064a\u064e\u0651\u0627\u062a<\/span>) are formed as adjectives in Arabic by adding the suffix (<\/span>\u064a<\/span>\u0651<\/span>) to the end of the country name. For example, Egypt is (<\/span>\u0645\u0650\u0635\u0652\u0631<\/span>), and Egyptian is (<\/span>\u0645\u0650\u0635\u0652\u0631\u064a<\/span>); Algeria is (<\/span>\u0627\u0644\u062c\u064e\u0632\u064e\u0627\u0626\u0650\u0631<\/span>), and Algerian is (<\/span>\u062c\u064e\u0632\u064e\u0627\u0626\u0650\u0631\u064a<\/span>), Brazil is (<\/span>\u0627\u0644\u0628\u064e\u0631\u064e\u0627\u0632\u064a\u0644<\/span>), and Brazilian is (<\/span>\u0628\u064e\u0631\u064e\u0627\u0632\u064a\u0644\u064a<\/span>).<\/span><\/p>\n

There are some changes done to certain country names when we form nationalities from them, e.g. country names that end in (<\/span>\u0627<\/span>) like (<\/span>\u0628\u064e\u0631\u0650\u064a\u0637\u064e\u0627\u0646\u064a\u0627<\/span>) \u2018Britain\u2019, (<\/span>\u0623\u064e\u0644\u0652\u0645\u064e\u0627\u0646\u064a\u0627<\/span>) \u2018Germany\u2019, (<\/span>\u0623\u064e\u0646\u0652\u062f\u0648\u0646\u0650\u064a\u0633\u0652\u064a\u0627<\/span>) \u2018Indonesia\u2019<\/span>, etc. In these names, the long (<\/span>\u0627<\/span>) disappears in the nationality, e.g. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Likewise, in country names that end in(<\/span>\u0629<\/span>), e.g. (<\/span>\u0645\u064e\u0627\u0644\u0652\u0637\u064e\u0629<\/span>) \u2018Malta\u2019 and (<\/span>\u0627\u0644\u0633\u064e\u0639\u064f\u0648\u062f\u064a\u064e\u0651\u0629<\/span>) \u2018Saudi Arabia\u2019, the final (<\/span>\u0629<\/span>) disappears in nationalities, e.g. (<\/span>\u0645\u064e\u0627\u0644\u0652\u0637\u064e<\/span>\u064a<\/span>) and (<\/span>\u0633\u064e\u0639\u064f\u0648\u062f\u064a\u064e\u0651<\/span>).<\/span><\/p>\n

Very few countries have more changes to their names when making the nationalities, e.g. <\/span>(\u0627\u0650\u0646\u0652\u062c\u0650\u0644\u0652\u062a\u0650\u0631\u0627<\/span>) <\/span>becomes<\/span> (\u0625\u0646\u0652\u062c\u0644\u0650\u064a\u0632\u0650\u064a<\/span>), (\u0623\u064e\u0641\u0652\u063a\u0627\u0646\u0650\u0633\u062a\u064e\u0627\u0646<\/span>) <\/span>becomes <\/span>(\u0623\u064e\u0641\u0652\u063a\u0627\u0646\u0650\u064a<\/span>) <\/span>and<\/span> (\u0627\u0644\u0646\u0650\u0651\u0645\u0652\u0633\u0627<\/span>) <\/span>becomes<\/span> (\u0646\u0650\u0645\u0652\u0633\u0627\u0648\u064a<\/span>).<\/span><\/p>\n

We should always remember that like any other adjectives, nationalities have to agree with nouns they describe in gender, number and case. Some nationalities have sound plural, e.g. (<\/span>\u0645\u0650\u0635\u0652\u0631\u064a<\/span>) and (<\/span>\u0645\u0650\u0635\u0652\u0631\u064a\u0648\u0646<\/span>), while others have broken plurals, e.g. (<\/span>\u0625\u0646\u0652\u062c\u0644\u0650\u064a\u0632\u0650\u064a<\/span>) and (<\/span>\u0625\u0646\u0652\u062c\u0644\u0650\u064a\u0632<\/span>).<\/span><\/p>\n
