This is not new; it\u2019s been around since the early days of Islam, mainly in the speech of non-Arabs. It first emerged in the wrong assignment of final diacritical marks, that is parsing or I\u2018raab <strong>\u0625\u0650\u0639\u0652\u0631\u064e\u0627\u0628<\/strong>. Except for borrowed words, colloquial usage in all Arabic varieties is derived from Classical Arabic. This post highlights an aspect of colloquialism in Egyptian dialect\u2014blending or <strong>\u0627\u0644\u0646\u0651\u064e\u062d\u0652\u062a<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-15310\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/arabic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/02\/blending-in-Arabic.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/arabic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/02\/blending-in-Arabic.png 936w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/arabic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/02\/blending-in-Arabic-350x200.png 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/arabic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/02\/blending-in-Arabic-768x440.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Contrary to the common belief, especially by many learners of Arabic, Egyptian Dialect of Arabic is not hugely different and separate from Modern Standard Arabic. Besides I\u2018raab <strong>\u0625\u0650\u0639\u0652\u0631\u064e\u0627\u0628<\/strong>, which it has almost completely lost and replaced by <em>taskeen<\/em> <strong>\u062a\u064e\u0633\u0652\u0643\u0650\u064a\u0646<\/strong>, i.e. regular assignment of <em>sukuun<\/em> to word endings, it varies in the pronunciation of certain speech sounds, assignment of internal diacritics, and word formation, such as blending <strong>\u0627\u0644\u0646\u0651\u064e\u062d\u0652\u062a<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Blending <strong>\u0627\u0644\u0646\u0651\u064e\u062d\u0652\u062a<\/strong> is a way of creating new words in many world languages. Take the case of <em>smog<\/em> and <em>brunch<\/em> in English, which derived from two words, namely <em>smoke <\/em>and <em>fog<\/em> and <em>breakfast <\/em>and <em>lunch<\/em>, respectively. It is essentially taking one part of a word and combining it with one part from another word to form a new word.<\/p>\n<p>In Arabic, blending <strong>\u0627\u0644\u0646\u0651\u064e\u062d\u0652\u062a <\/strong>is triggered by the desire to be swift and concise particularly while speaking. It occurs between two or more words. Following are explanations of some commonly used blends in Egyptian dialects. (note: all examples are in colloquial Egyptian).<\/p>\n<h5><strong>1)\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">\u0643\u064e\u0645\u064e\u0627\u0646<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>\u0643\u064e\u0645\u064e\u0627\u0646<\/strong> means \u2018also\u2019 or \u2018too\u2019.
