As explained in an earlier post<\/a>, nouns \u0627\u0644\u0623\u064e\u0633\u0652\u0645\u064e\u0627\u0621<\/strong> and verbs \u0627\u0644\u0623\u064e\u0641\u0652\u0639\u064e\u0627\u0644<\/strong> have three forms: singular \u0645\u064f\u0641\u0652\u0631\u064e\u062f<\/strong>, dual \u0645\u064f\u062b\u064e\u0646\u0651\u064e\u0649<\/strong>, or plural \u062c\u064e\u0645\u0652\u0639<\/strong>. Unlike the formation of dual noun forms, plural noun forms are a bit more complex because they constitute three types: sound masculine plural \u062c\u064e\u0645\u0652\u0639 \u0645\u064f\u0630\u064e\u0643\u0651\u064e\u0631 \u0633\u064e\u0627\u0644\u0650\u0645<\/strong>, sound feminine plural \u062c\u064e\u0645\u0652\u0639 \u0645\u064f\u0624\u064e\u0646\u0651\u064e\u062b \u0633\u064e\u0627\u0644\u0650\u0645<\/strong>, and broken plural \u062c\u064e\u0645\u0652\u0639 \u062a\u064e\u0643\u0652\u0633\u0650\u064a\u0631<\/strong>. The formation of verb plural forms is more straightforward. This post about how plural nouns and verbs are formed and how their formation changes when they occur in different positions of the sentence.<\/p>\n

Sound masculine plural nouns and sound feminine plural nouns are regular because they are formed by adding a suffix (i.e. a plural marker) to the end of the singular noun. To the former, \u0648\u0646 <\/strong>(which changes to \u064a\u0646 <\/strong>in certain sentence positions) are added, while to the latter \u0627\u062a <\/strong>is appended. Broken plural is irregular because its formation does not follow a specific pattern. Plural forms of verbs are simpler; with masculine plurals \u0648\u0646 <\/strong>(which is called \u0648\u064e\u0627\u0648\u064f \u0627\u0644\u062c\u064e\u0645\u064e\u0627\u0639\u064e\u0629 <\/strong>waw<\/em> of males) is added to the end in the indicative mood, and the \u0646 <\/strong>is dropped in the subjective and jussive moods. With feminine plurals, \u0646\u0652<\/strong> (which is called \u0646\u064f\u0648\u0652\u0646\u064f \u0627\u0644\u0646\u0651\u0650\u0633\u0652\u0648\u064e\u0629<\/strong>, the nuun <\/em>of females) is append to the end of all verbs regardless of the mood.<\/p>\n

Pronominal Plurals <\/strong>\u0636\u064e\u0645\u064e\u0627\u0626\u0650\u0631\u064f \u0627\u0644\u062c\u064e\u0645\u0652\u0639<\/strong><\/span>:<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n

While it has no dual form, the first person singular \u0623\u064e\u0646\u064e\u0627<\/strong> has a plural form, that is \u0646\u064e\u062d\u0652\u0646\u064f<\/strong>. Likewise, while the second person singular has only one dual form for both masculine and feminine (i.e. \u0623\u064e\u0646\u0652\u062a\u064f\u0645\u0627<\/strong>), it has two plural forms, one for the masculine \u0623\u064e\u0646\u0652\u062a\u064f\u0645<\/strong>, and one for the feminine \u0623\u064e\u0646\u0652\u062a\u064f\u0646\u0651\u064e<\/strong>. So is the case with the third person forms, that is there are tow plural forms. \u0647\u064f\u0645\u0652 <\/strong>is for the masculine, and \u0647\u064f\u0646\u0651\u064e<\/strong> is for the feminine, as shown in the table below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The masculine singular nouns are made plural by adding \u0648\u0646 <\/strong>to their ends. As is the case with dual, the \u0648 <\/strong>is the plural marker, while the \u0646<\/strong> replaces the parsing marks<\/a> that occur with the singular, namely fatHah<\/em>, DHammah<\/em>, kasrah<\/em>, or their corresponding tanween <\/em>in the case of indefinite nouns<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The \u0648\u0646 <\/strong>changes to \u064a\u0646 <\/strong>when the noun is in an object position, after a preposition, or the second noun of a genitive construction<\/a>. In the table, the indefinite singular noun gets tanween<\/em> (of fatHah, DHammah, <\/em>or kasrah<\/em>) based on the its parsing mark. The definite noun (the noun with \u0627\u0644<\/strong>) gets fatHah, DHammah, <\/em>or kasrah<\/em>. The plural noun gets \u0648\u0646 <\/strong>if it is nominative \u0645\u064e\u0631\u0652\u0641\u064f\u0648\u0652\u0639 <\/strong>and \u0640\u064a\u0646 <\/strong>if it is accusative \u0645\u064e\u0646\u0652\u0635\u064f\u0648\u0628 <\/strong>or genitive \u0645\u064e\u062c\u0652\u0631\u064f\u0648\u0631<\/strong>; therefore, the plural form with accusative and genitive mark is the same. Comparing this to the dual accusative and genitive form, the only difference between the two is that in the case of the dual the last letter of the singular noun before the \u064a\u0646 <\/strong>must have fatHah<\/em>, hence \u0645\u064f\u0639\u064e\u0644\u0651\u0650\u0645\u064e\u064a\u0652\u0646<\/strong>, \u0645\u064f\u0633\u0652\u0644\u0650\u0645\u064e\u064a\u0652\u0646<\/strong>, and \u0645\u064f\u0642\u064e\u0627\u062a\u0650\u0644\u064e\u064a\u0652\u0646<\/strong>; but it must have kasrah <\/em>in the case of the plural, hence \u0645\u064f\u0639\u064e\u0644\u0651\u0650\u0645\u0650\u064a\u0652\u0646<\/strong>, \u0645\u064f\u0633\u0652\u0644\u0650\u0645\u0650\u064a\u0652\u0646<\/strong>, and \u0645\u064f\u0642\u064e\u0627\u062a\u0650\u0644\u0650\u064a\u0652\u0646<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In (2), the plural marker is \u064a\u0646 <\/strong>because \u0627\u0644\u0645\u064f\u0639\u064e\u0644\u0651\u0650\u0645\u0650\u064a\u0652\u0646 <\/strong>is in the object \u0645\u064e\u0641\u0652\u0639\u064f\u0648\u0644 <\/strong>position, which is always accusative. In (3), the plural marker is also \u064a\u0646 <\/strong>because \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0627\u0639\u0650\u0628\u0650\u064a\u0652\u0646 <\/strong>is an object of a preposition \u0627\u0650\u0633\u0652\u0645\u064f \u0645\u064e\u062c\u0652\u0631\u064f\u0648\u0631<\/strong>, which is always genitive.<\/p>\n

The plural marker \u0640\u0627\u062a<\/strong> remains the same regardless of the position of the sound feminine plural noun in the sentence.
