Of course, if you are interested in Arab culture, Jordanians for the most part are Arabs, yet Jordan is also home to a few non-Arab<strong> ethnic minorities<\/strong> (<strong>\u0623\u0642\u0644\u064a\u0627\u062a \u0639\u0631\u0642\u064a\u0629<\/strong><strong>)<\/strong> who have adapted to Arab culture yet have kept their own unique cultural identities (<strong>\u0647\u0648\u064a\u0627\u062a \u062b\u0642\u0627\u0641\u064a\u0629<\/strong>). These ethnic groups are the Circassians, Chechens, Armenians, and Kurds.<\/p>\n<p>These four ethnic groups make up 2 % of Jordanian\u2019s population. That may not be much, but they add much diversity (<strong>\u062a\u0646\u0648\u0639<\/strong>) and richness to Jordanian culture. They each have their own language, traditions, cuisine, music, and dance. With time, they have adapted to Arab culture, speak fluent Arabic, and have representatives in the Jordanian parliament.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Circassians (<\/strong><strong>\u0627\u0644\u0634\u0631\u0627\u0643\u0633<\/strong><strong>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Circassians make up the biggest percentage of these ethnic groups numbering to about 190,000. They come from the Caucasus region who were displaced (<strong>\u0634\u064f\u0631\u062f\u0648\u0627<\/strong>) in the 19<sup>th<\/sup> century due to the Russian conquest of the Caucasus resulting in the Circassian genocide (<strong>\u0627\u0628\u0627\u062f\u0629<\/strong>). They began settling in Jordan in the 1870\u2019s. Here is a video showing clips of a Jordanian Circassian dance group performing for the King and Queen of Jordan: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Nmlf43fWRgE\">\u0627\u0644\u0631\u0642\u0635 \u0627\u0644\u0634\u0631\u0643\u0633\u064a \u0641\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0623\u0631\u062f\u0646<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Chechens (<\/strong><strong>\u0627\u0644\u0634\u064a\u0634\u0627\u0646<\/strong><strong>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Chechens, like the Circassians, also come from the Caucasus. They settled (<strong>\u0625\u0633\u062a\u0642\u0631\u0648\u0627<\/strong>) in Jordan in the early 1900\u2019s after leaving Chechnya during the Caucasian War. Despite Chechnya now being an independent state (<strong>\u062f\u0648\u0644\u0629 \u0645\u0633\u062a\u0642\u0644\u0629<\/strong>), Jordanian Chechens still choose to remain in Jordan and proudly identify themselves as Jordanians of Chechnyan origin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Kurds (<\/strong><strong>\u0627\u0644\u0623\u0643\u0631\u0627\u062f<\/strong><strong>) and <\/strong><strong>The Armenians (<\/strong><strong>\u0627\u0644\u0623\u0631\u0645\u0646<\/strong><strong>) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kurds make up around 30,000 of Jordan\u2019s population. They are considered an Iranian ethnic group who settled in Jordan in both the 19<sup>th<\/sup> and 20<sup>th<\/sup> centuries. Unlike Kurds in other Arab countries such as Iraq and Syria where they have been facing persecution (<strong>\u0627\u0636\u0637\u0647\u0627\u062f<\/strong>) and discrimination (<strong>\u062a\u0645\u064a\u064a\u0632<\/strong>), Jordanian Kurds live a safe life and have equal rights to those of their Arab neighbors.<\/p>\n<p>Armenians originally from Armenia, settled in Jordan in the early 20<sup>th<\/sup> century as a result of the Armenian genocide that took place during WWI. Their numbers estimate to be around 4,000. Not only is Jordan a safe home for Armenians, but they can openly and freely express (<strong>\u064a\u0639\u0631\u0628\u0648\u0646 \u0639\u0646<\/strong>) their culture and language.<\/p>\n<p>So, there you have it, Jordan\u2019s little melting pot (<strong>\u0628\u0648\u062a\u0642\u0629<\/strong>)! If you ever visit Jordan, keep in mind the people you meet and talk to in Arabic may be of different cultural backgrounds.
