coffee.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Levantine Arabic<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>An important and often used phrase to know in Levantine Arabic is <strong>\u062f\u064a\u0631 \u0628\u0627\u0644\u0643<\/strong> which roughly translates to Be careful. \/Take care. \/Beware. depending on context.<\/p>\n<p>Now, with the Coronavirus pandemic, I am hearing from many family members and friends to <strong>\u062f\u064a\u0631\u064a \u0628\u0627\u0644\u0650\u0643<\/strong> almost every day.<\/p>\n<p>Literally, <strong>\u062f\u064a\u0631 \u0628\u0627\u0644\u0643<\/strong> means to \u201cturn your attention\u201d where <strong>\u062f\u0627\u0631\u064e<\/strong> means \u201cto turn\u201d and <strong>\u0628\u0627\u0644<\/strong> means \u201cthought\/attention\/mind\u201d. Both words exist in Modern Standard Arabic as well and have the same meaning, yet together, they mean the expression \u201cBe careful.\u201d in Levantine Arabic.<\/p>\n<p>In modern standard Arabic, one would use the verb \u201c<strong>\u062d\u064e\u0630\u0650\u0631\u064e<\/strong>\u201d therefore making it <strong>\u0627\u0650\u062d\u0652\u0630\u0650\u0631\u0652<\/strong> to say be careful or be cautious.<\/p>\n<p>Going back to <strong>\u062f\u064a\u0631 \u0628\u0627\u0644\u064e\u0643<\/strong>, when saying it to a male, one would say \u201c<strong>\u062f\u064a\u0631 \u0628\u0627\u0644\u064e\u0643<\/strong>\u201d, with a <u>fetHa<\/u> on the lam, to a female \u201c<strong>\u062f\u064a\u0631\u064a \u0628\u0627\u0644\u0650\u0643<\/strong>\u201d with a <u>kesra<\/u> beneath the lam, and to two or more people \u201c<strong>\u062f\u064a\u0631\u0648 \u0628\u0627\u0644\u0643\u064f\u0645<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes it is used to say take care of someone or something.
