It caused quite a storm in both the East and the West. Released in 1976 in both separately-filmed Arabic and English-language versions \u0646\u0633\u062e<\/strong>, The Message serves as an introduction \u0645\u064f\u0642\u064e\u062f\u0651\u0650\u0645\u0629<\/strong> to early Islamic history. It\u2019s one film I recommend Arabic learners to look into it if they are interested in history and want to listen to beautiful classical Arabic being spoken by some of the biggest stars of Arabic cinema of the time. ?<\/p>\n

Akkad\u2019s purpose \u0647\u064e\u062f\u064e\u0641<\/strong> in directing this film was to tell the truth \u0627\u0644\u062d\u064e\u0642\u064a\u0642\u0629<\/strong> about Islam and try and build a bridge of understanding between the East and the West. Despite the fact that the film did not show any impersonation \u0627\u0646\u062a\u0650\u062d\u0627\u0644 \u0634\u064e\u062e\u0635\u0650\u064a\u0651\u0629<\/strong> of the prophet \u0631\u064e\u0633\u0648\u0644<\/strong> Mohammed, where the film even opens with the disclaimer: \u201cThe makers of this film honor the Islamic tradition which holds that the impersonation of the Prophet offends against the spirituality of his message. Therefore, the person of Mohammed will not be shown (or heard).\u201d, the film was still deemed sacrilegious \u0645\u062f\u0646\u0633<\/strong> and was banned \u064a\u064e\u062d\u0652\u0638\u064f\u0631<\/strong> in some territories in the Middle East and worse, it was even linked to a violent \u0639\u064e\u0646\u064a\u0641<\/strong> event in Washington, D.C. in 1977. Yet, about four decades later, The Message is still treasured by many in the Arab world, where it has circulated widely in pirated editions and re-released in high-definition.<\/p>\n
