The proverb is used in a situation where a person attempts to be smart and do something witty and fails!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>= = = = = = =<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>*The origins of the proverb\/story behind it <\/u><\/strong><strong><u>\u0623\u0635\u0644 \u0627\u0644\u0645\u062b\u0644 \u0627\u0644\u0634\u0639\u0628\u064a\/\u0627\u0644\u0642\u0635\u0629 \u0645\u0646 \u0648\u0631\u0627\u0621\u0647 <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As a reference, I used the video below (in Egyptian Arabic) that talks briefly about the proverb and its origins. <strong>Below<\/strong> is a summary of the content of the video. However, the village is <strong>an actual place<\/strong><strong> \u0645\u0643\u0627\u0646 \u062d\u0642\u064a\u0642\u064a <\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(2000 year old) and is located in <strong>the heart of the Egyptian capital <\/strong><strong>\u0642\u0644\u0628 \u0627\u0644\u0639\u0627\u0635\u0645\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u0645\u0635\u0631\u064a\u0629<\/strong>. Around a hundred years ago, this village used to be a residential area for the largest group of water sellers who would meet in that village and sell water to people <strong>by<\/strong> <strong>carrying water on their backs <\/strong><strong>\u0639\u0646 \u0637\u0631\u064a\u0642 \u062d\u0645\u0644 \u0627\u0644\u0645\u064a\u0627\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u0649 \u0638\u0647\u0648\u0631\u0647\u0645<\/strong>, using old traditional type of bottles (made out <strong>of animals\u2019 skin <\/strong><strong>\u062c\u0644\u062f \u0627\u0644\u062d\u064a\u0648\u0627\u0646\u0627\u062a<\/strong>, particularly that of goats) called \u201cQirab\u201d <strong>\u0642\u0650\u0631\u064e\u0628<\/strong> or \u201cErab\u201d (in the Egyptian dialect), which is the plural of \u201cQirba\u201d <strong>\u0642\u0650\u0631\u0652\u0628\u064e\u0629<\/strong> or \u201cErba\u201d <strong>that was used to keep water cool \u0627\u0644\u062a\u064a \u0643\u0627\u0646\u062a <\/strong><strong>\u062a\u0633\u062a\u062e\u062f\u0645 \u0644\u0625\u0628\u0642\u0627\u0621 \u0627\u0644\u0645\u064a\u0627\u0647 \u0628\u0627\u0631\u062f\u0629<\/strong> <strong>before electricity was invented <\/strong><strong>\u0642\u0628\u0644 \u0627\u062e\u062a\u0631\u0627\u0639 \u0627\u0644\u0643\u0647\u0631\u0628\u0627\u0621<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The person who sells water is called <strong>\u0627\u0644\u0633\u0651\u0642\u0651\u0627<\/strong> \u00a0<strong>essa\u2019a <\/strong>(plural is <strong>\u0633\u0642\u0627\u064a\u064a\u0646<\/strong>), meaning the person who waters others, derived from the verb<strong> y-asqi<\/strong> <strong>\u064a\u0633\u0642\u064a<\/strong> \u00a0in Standard Arabic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>= = = = = = =<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>*The Story <\/u><\/strong><strong><u>\u0627\u0644\u0642\u0635\u0629<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since \u062d\u0627\u0631\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0642\u0627\u064a\u064a\u0646 \u00a0is the place where water sellers are found, <strong>water was always available \u0627\u0644\u0645\u0627\u0621 \u0643\u0627\u0646 \u0645\u062a\u0648\u0641\u0631 \u062f\u0627\u0626\u0645\u064b\u0627 <\/strong>\u00a0and so no one sells water anyway! However, some men who were new to the profession tried to sell water there and <strong>failed miserably \u0641\u0634\u0644\u0648\u0627 \u0641\u0634\u0644\u064b\u0627 \u0630\u0631\u064a\u0639\u064b\u0627 <\/strong>\u00a0until told by an old man that it won\u2019t work because of<strong> the lack of demand for \u0642\u0644\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u0637\u0644\u0628 \u0639\u0644\u0649<\/strong> \u00a0water there.
