This day in 1967 was an unlucky day to all Arab countries neighboring Israel. Like today and on 5<sup>th<\/sup> June 1967, Israel launched a sudden and violent military attack against Syria, Egypt and Jordan. The war lasted for only six days. That is why it was named the Six Days War <strong>\u062d\u0631\u0628<\/strong> <strong>\u0627\u0644\u0623\u064a\u0627\u0645<\/strong> <strong>\u0627\u0644\u0633\u062a\u0629<\/strong> . It is also named the Third Arab Israeli War or the 1967 Arab Israeli War. Most Arabs prefer to name it as the Setback War or Annakbah <strong>\u0627\u0644\u0646\u0643\u0628\u0629<\/strong> \u00a0. As a result of this war, Israel occupied territories including the Gaza Strip <strong>\u0642\u0637\u0627\u0639<\/strong> <strong>\u063a\u0632\u0629<\/strong> and the Sinai Peninsula <strong>\u0634\u0628\u0647 \u062c\u0632\u064a\u0631\u0629 \u0633\u064a\u0646\u0627\u0621<\/strong> \u00a0from Egypt, the West Bank <strong>\u0627\u0644\u0636\u0641\u0629<\/strong> <strong>\u0627\u0644\u063a\u0631\u0628\u064a\u0629<\/strong> and East Jerusalem <strong>\u0627\u0644\u0642\u062f\u0633<\/strong> <strong>\u0627\u0644\u0634\u0631\u0642\u064a\u0629<\/strong> from Jordan and the Golan Heights <strong>\u0645\u0631\u062a\u0641\u0639\u0627\u062a \u0627\u0644\u062c\u0648\u0644\u0627\u0646<\/strong> from Syria. The war was only one round in the chain of the Arab-Israeli conflict that can be dated back to the 1916 Sykes-Picot Agreement <strong>\u0627\u062a\u0641\u0627\u0642\u064a\u0629<\/strong> <strong>\u0633\u0627\u064a\u0643\u0633<\/strong> <strong>\u0628\u064a\u0643\u0648<\/strong> which promised the Jews a national home in Palestine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The declaration <strong>\u0625\u0639\u0644\u0627\u0646<\/strong> of a Jewish state in Palestine in 1948 caused a state of anger <strong>\u063a\u0636\u0628<\/strong> and refusal <strong>\u0631\u0641\u0636<\/strong> amongst Arabs who viewed it as an illegal <strong>\u063a\u064a\u0631<\/strong> <strong>\u0634\u0631\u0639\u064a<\/strong> act. Since then, tension never calmed down between Israel and all Arab countries especially, the neighboring ones. The Arabs tried to free Palestine from the Israeli occupation <strong>\u0627\u062d\u062a\u0644\u0627\u0644<\/strong> in the 1948 war but they could not. Israel participated with France and Britain in the 1956 War against Egypt. On 5<sup>th<\/sup> June 1967, Israel started the war against its neighbors and occupied the above mentioned lands.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 As a result of the Israeli aggression <strong>\u0639\u062f\u0648\u0627\u0646<\/strong> and invasion <strong>\u063a\u0632\u0648<\/strong> and under pressure from all Arab countries, the United Nations Security Council issued the Resolution 242 <strong>\u0627\u0644\u0642\u0631\u0627\u0631 \u0631\u0642\u0645 <\/strong>which included the withdrawal <strong>\u0627\u0646\u0633\u062d\u0627\u0628<\/strong> of Israel armed forces from the territories occupied in the 1967 War. However, the resolution did not come into effect until Israel was forced to after the 1973 War that Egypt and Syria launched to restore Sinai and Golan. An individual peace treaty <strong>\u0645\u0639\u0627\u0647\u062f\u0629<\/strong> <strong>\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645<\/strong> was reached between Egypt and Israel upon which Sinai was restored.
