Moving on to our sixteenth letter of the Arabic alphabet (\u0638<\/strong>). Compared to other Arabic letters, you won\u2019t find as many words beginning with the letter \u0638<\/strong>, which is why in this post, I included various words that both begin and have the letter \u0638<\/strong> in them, along with more culture\/language related facts.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s begin with looking at your basic forms of the letter \u0638<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n

Initial \u0638\u0640<\/strong>\u200e, as in the word \u201c\ufec7\u064f\ufeec\ufeae<\/strong>\u201d meaning \u201cnoon\u201d.<\/p>\n

Medial \u0640\u0638<\/strong>\u200e \u200d, as in the word \u201c\u0644\u064e\u062d\u0652\u0638\u064e\u0629<\/strong>\u201d meaning \u201cmoment\u201d.<\/p>\n

The letter \u0638<\/strong> is another Arabic letter that does not have an equivalent sound in English. Since we have already covered in the past weeks the letters \u0630<\/strong>, \u0636<\/strong> and now \u0638<\/strong>, I thought to share this short concise video explaining how each of these letters are pronounced. I know these letters can be considered tricky and sometimes difficult to distinguish for Arabic learners. I thought a little pronunciation review through this video would help. ?<\/p>\n

?Speaking of \u0644\u064e\u0641\u0652\u0638<\/strong>, in Levantine Arabic, Arabic words that contain the sound \u0638<\/strong>, are very often pronounced instead as \u0632<\/strong> or \u0636<\/strong>. There is no rule of thumb to know when to pronounce which as which. That comes with practicing the dialect.<\/p>\n
