Moving on to our twenty eighth and last letter of the Arabic alphabet (\u064a<\/strong>)! I hope you found this series of posts helpful in your Arabic learning. As always, let\u2019s look at various words beginning with (\u064a<\/strong>) along with more culture\/language related facts.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s begin with looking at your basic forms of the letter \u064a<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n

Initial \u064a\u0640<\/strong>\u200e, as in the word \u201c\u064a\u064e\u0648\u0652\u0645<\/strong>\u201d meaning \u201cday\u201d.<\/p>\n

Medial \u0640\u064a\u0640<\/strong>\u200e\u200d, as in the word \u201c\u0639\u064a\u0652\u062f<\/strong>\u201d meaning \u201cEid\u201d.<\/p>\n

Final \u0640\u064a<\/strong>\u200e, as in the word \u201c\u0630\u064e\u0643\u064a<\/strong>\u201d meaning \u201csmart\u201d.<\/p>\n

Remember that the letter \u064a<\/strong> can either be a vowel when it makes a long \u201cee\u201d sound as in the word \u0639\u0644\u064a<\/strong>, or a consonant when it makes the \u201cya\u201d sound as in the word \u064a\u064e\u0648\u0652\u0645<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Before looking at the following words, can you think of words beginning with \u064a<\/strong>?<\/h3>\n

\u2728 \u064a\u0627: O\/oh\/hey<\/h3>\n

\u064a\u0627<\/strong> is a vocative particle, similar to “O” in English yet used much more frequently in Arabic without sounding a bit strange or archaic as it may sound in English. \u064a\u0627<\/strong> is used to address someone or a people. In some contexts, a close equivalent to modern day English is “Hey” when calling out to someone, for example, \u064a\u0627 \u0639\u0644\u064a <\/strong>\u201cHey Ali\u201d. You will find that \u064a\u0627<\/strong> is used more frequently in Modern Standard Arabic than it is in colloquial Arabic. You can find many examples of \u064a\u0627<\/strong> in Qur\u2019anic verses and poetry.<\/p>\n

Here are some examples showing the use of \u064a\u0627<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n
