Welcome to another post. Today’s post is of interest to those who are keen to learn spoken Arabic as the focus is Libyan Arabic<\/strong> \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647\u062c\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u064a\u0628\u064a\u0629<\/strong> . As is the case with vernacular Arabic in general, dialects are not 100% Arabic and include many words that are of foreign origin \u0645\u0646 \u0623\u0635\u0644 \u0623\u062c\u0646\u0628\u064a,<\/strong> mainly for political reasons \u0644\u0623\u0633\u0628\u0627\u0628 \u0633\u064a\u0627\u0633\u064a\u0629<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I hope the post will be particularly useful to our Italian speaking readers who are interested in learning spoken Arabic. Being aware of these words can give you a good start\u00a0<\/strong>at that as you will be able to understand the gist of what\u2019s being said as the words we will study below are used in everyday life<\/strong> \u0627\u0644\u062d\u064a\u0627\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u064a\u0648\u0645\u064a\u0629<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Libyan Arabic is one of the Arabic dialects that have been heavily influenced \u062a\u0623\u062b\u0631\u062a \u0628\u0634\u0643\u0644 \u0643\u0628\u064a\u0631<\/strong> by the Italian language and culture as there are many originally Italian<\/strong> words\u00a0\u0625\u064a\u0637\u0627\u0644\u064a\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u0623\u0635\u0644<\/strong> that were adopted due to the Italian<\/strong> occupation \u0627\u0644\u0627\u062d\u062a\u0644\u0627\u0644<\/strong> \u0627\u0644\u0625\u064a\u0637\u0627\u0644\u064a<\/strong> \u00a0of<\/strong> Libya<\/strong> \u0644\u0644\u064a\u0628\u064a\u0627<\/strong> \u00a0in 1911.<\/p>\n

The influence is very obvious \u0648\u0627\u0636\u062d \u062c\u062f\u064b\u0627<\/strong>\u00a0 in Tripoli \u2013 the capital \u0627\u0644\u0639\u0627\u0635\u0645\u0629<\/strong> \u2013 more than other parts of Libya.<\/p>\n

So, the words we’re going to look at are divided into 5 main categories<\/span>: the street \u0627\u0644\u0634\u0627\u0631\u0639, the car \u0627\u0644\u0633\u064a\u0627\u0631\u0629, shopping \u0627\u0644\u062a\u0633\u0648\u0642, the house \u0627\u0644\u0645\u0646\u0632\u0644\u00a0 <\/strong>and clothes \u0645\u0644\u0627\u0628\u0633.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2728 \u00a0<\/strong>\u2728 \u00a0<\/strong>\u2728 \u00a0\u2728 \u00a0<\/strong>\u2728<\/strong><\/p>\n

*Main Sound changes from Italian to Libyan:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

As is the case with loan words \u0627\u0644\u0643\u0644\u0645\u0627\u062a \u0627\u0644\u062f\u062e\u064a\u0644\u0629,<\/strong> the Italian words that are adopted and integrated into Libyan Arabic have gone through a process of phonetic change \u062a\u063a\u064a\u064a\u0631 \u0635\u0648\u062a\u064a,<\/strong> i.e. the pronunciation<\/strong> of words \u0646\u0637\u0642 \u0627\u0644\u0643\u0644\u0645\u0627\u062a<\/strong> changed to sound more Arabic and less Italian. This is mainly achieved through changing the way letters (consonants \u0627\u0644\u062d\u0631\u0648\u0641 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0627\u0643\u0646\u0629<\/strong> & vowels \u062d\u0631\u0648\u0641 \u0627\u0644\u0639\u0644\u0651\u0629)<\/strong> are pronounced.<\/p>\n

In this list, I put examples of a few combination of letters<\/span> that are used to replace the Latin ones originally found in the Italian words that were adopted.<\/p>\n
