If you have visited Jordan or know a bit about its \u062a\u0627\u0631\u064a\u062e<\/strong> history<\/strong>, surely you know of \u0627\u0644\u0645\u064e\u0644\u0650\u0643 \u062d\u064f\u0633\u064e\u064a\u0646 <\/strong>\u0628\u0650\u0646 \u0637\u064e\u0644\u0627\u0644 <\/strong>King Hussein bin Talal<\/strong>. His pictures still hang in \u0627\u0644\u0628\u064a\u0648\u062a<\/strong> homes<\/strong>, \u0627\u0644\u0645\u064e\u062f\u0627\u0631\u0650\u0633<\/strong> schools<\/strong>, \u0627\u0644\u0645\u064e\u0628\u0627\u0646\u064a<\/strong> \u0627\u0644\u062d\u0643\u0648\u0645\u064a\u0629<\/strong> government<\/strong> buildings<\/strong>, \u0627\u0644\u0642\u0627\u0639\u0627\u062a<\/strong> \u0627\u0644\u0639\u0627\u0645\u0629<\/strong> public<\/strong> halls<\/strong> and even \u0627\u0644\u0645\u064e\u0637\u0627\u0639\u0650\u0645<\/strong> restaurants<\/strong>. \u0627\u0644\u0634\u0639\u0628<\/strong> \u0627\u0644\u0623\u0631\u062f\u0646\u064a<\/strong> The<\/strong> Jordanian<\/strong> people<\/strong> like to be reminded of the king they revered so much. In this post, I thought we\u2019d learn about this important \u0634\u062e\u0635\u064a\u0629<\/strong> \u0639\u0631\u0628\u064a\u0629<\/strong> Arab<\/strong> figure<\/strong> and learn some new vocabulary along the way.<\/p>\n

Before we head on to the \u0627\u0644\u062d\u064e\u0642\u0627\u0626\u0650\u0642<\/strong> \u00a0facts<\/strong>, I thought to share a \u062a\u064e\u062c\u0631\u064f\u0628\u0629<\/strong> \u0634\u064e\u062e\u0635\u064a\u0629<\/strong> personal<\/strong> experience<\/strong> I had related to the late King Hussein. I moved to \u0639\u0645\u0627\u0646\u060c \u0627\u0644\u0623\u0631\u062f\u0646<\/strong> Amman,<\/strong> Jordan<\/strong> from the US when I was nine years old to live with my grandparents and be immersed in the Arabic language and the \u0627\u0644\u062b\u0642\u0627\u0641\u0629<\/strong> \u0627\u0644\u0623\u0631\u062f\u0646\u064a\u0629<\/strong> \u00a0Jordanian<\/strong> culture<\/strong>. It was 1999 and I was beginning fourth grade in a new language. On the day before my birthday, I was sitting in class and \u0641\u062c\u0623\u0629\u064b<\/strong> suddenly<\/strong> there was all this \u0636\u064e\u062c\u0629<\/strong> commotion<\/strong>, and my teachers were in tears. I did not know what was happening until a fellow student pointed to a photo of King Hussein we had hanging in the classroom and said that he just \u0645\u0627\u062a<\/strong> died<\/strong>. I looked at his photo trying to acknowledge the news. We went home early that day and the following morning I woke up on my birthday to watch the king\u2019s \u062f\u064e\u0641\u0652\u0646<\/strong> burial<\/strong> on television. The whole country was \u0641\u064a<\/strong> \u062d\u0650\u062f\u0627\u062f<\/strong> \u00a0in<\/strong> mourning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I think the first question to ask is where would Jordan be if it wasn\u2019t for \u0627\u0644\u0645\u064e\u0644\u0650\u0643 \u062d\u064f\u0633\u064a\u0646<\/strong>?<\/p>\n

\u0627\u0644\u0645\u064e\u0644\u0650\u0643 \u062d\u064f\u0633\u064a\u0646 \u0628\u0650\u0646 \u0637\u064e\u0644\u0627\u0644 <\/strong>is to many, the father of modern Jordan who throughout \u062d\u064f\u0643\u0645\u0647<\/strong> his<\/strong> reign<\/strong>, worked hard at \u0628\u0650\u0646\u0627\u0621 \u0627\u0644\u0628\u064f\u0646\u064a\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u062a\u062d\u062a\u064a\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u0627\u0642\u062a\u0635\u0627\u062f\u064a\u0629 \u0648\u0627\u0644\u0635\u0646\u0627\u0639\u064a\u0629 \u0641\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0623\u0631\u062f\u0646 building Jordan\u2019s economic and industrial infrastructure<\/strong> and \u0631\u064e\u0641\u0639 \u0645\u064f\u0633\u062a\u0648\u0649 \u0645\u064e\u0639\u064a\u0634\u0629 \u0634\u064e\u0639\u0628\u0647<\/strong> raising the living standards of his people<\/strong>. He guided his country through the \u0627\u0644\u0635\u0631\u0627\u0639 \u0627\u0644\u0639\u0631\u0628\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0625\u0633\u0631\u0627\u0626\u064a\u0644\u064a Arab\u2013Israeli conflict<\/strong> and \u0627\u0644\u062d\u0631\u0628<\/strong> \u0627\u0644\u0628\u0627\u0631\u062f\u0629<\/strong> the Cold War<\/strong>, transforming the country into a \u062f\u064e\u0648\u0644\u0629 \u062d\u064e\u062f\u064a\u062b\u0629 \u0645\u064f\u0633\u062a\u064e\u0642\u0650\u0631\u0629 stable modern state<\/strong>. Until his death, he helped further \u0645\u064f\u0641\u0627\u0648\u0636\u0627\u062a<\/strong> \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0651\u064e\u0644\u0627\u0645<\/strong> peace<\/strong> negotiations<\/strong> between Palestinians and Israelis and also worked to \u062d\u064e\u0644<\/strong> \u0627\u0644\u0646\u0651\u0650\u0632\u0627\u0639\u0627\u062a<\/strong> resolve<\/strong> disputes<\/strong> between Arab states such Iraq and Kuwait.<\/p>\n

There is another important reason why he is so \u0645\u064e\u062d\u0628\u0648\u0628<\/strong> beloved<\/strong> by many. Who are \u0627\u0644\u0647\u0627\u0634\u0645\u064a\u0648\u0646<\/strong> the<\/strong> Hashemites<\/strong>? The Hashemite dynasty is the royal family of Jordan who have ruled since 1921. They are considered by many Muslims to be among the \u201cPeople of the House,\u201d <\/strong>\u0623\u0647\u0644 \u0627\u0644\u0628\u064a\u062a<\/strong> the direct \u0623\u062d\u0641\u0627\u062f<\/strong> descendants<\/strong> of the Prophet Muhammad and the traditional guardians of the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. \u0627\u0644\u0645\u0644\u0643 \u062d\u0633\u064a\u0646<\/strong> was a 40th-generation direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad.<\/p>\n

\u0627\u0644\u0645\u0644\u0643 \u062d\u0633\u064a\u0646<\/strong> was the country\u2019s longest reigning leader. He died at the age of 63 from \u0633\u064e\u0631\u064e\u0637\u0627\u0646<\/strong> cancer<\/strong> on 7 February 1999. He was succeeded by his eldest son, who is the present \u0645\u0644\u0643 \u0639\u0628\u062f \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u062b\u0627\u0646\u064a King Abdullah II<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
