So, why is Ramadan “special” \u062d\u0627\u062c\u0629 \u062a\u0627\u0646\u064a\u0629\u00a0 in Egypt?<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n

The interesting phrase in the song is the one in the title: Haaga Tanja \u062d\u0627\u062c\u0629 \u062a\u0627\u0646\u064a\u0629<\/strong>, and it literally means> something else<\/em> or another thing<\/em>. In many Arabic dialects, this phrase is used to describe something that is special or unique<\/strong>. What is meant here is that Ramadan in Egypt has a different taste \u0644\u0647 \u0637\u0639\u0645 \u0645\u062e\u062a\u0644\u0641<\/u><\/strong> from any other place in the Muslim world. This point is one that pretty much every Arab agrees on. Egypt is known by its warm and cheerful atmosphere in most days of the year, but specially in Ramadan. During Ramadan, streets are often very busy \u0645\u0632\u062f\u062d\u0645\u0629 \u062c\u062f\u064b\u0627<\/strong> and lively \u0645\u0644\u064a\u0626\u0629 \u0628\u0627\u0644\u0646\u0634\u0627\u0637,<\/strong> and people stay up late \u0627\u0644\u0646\u0627\u0633 \u064a\u0633\u0647\u0631\u0648\u0646<\/strong>, gathering in cafes \u0627\u0644\u0645\u0642\u0627\u0647\u064a<\/strong> and public places \u0627\u0644\u0623\u0645\u0627\u0643\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0639\u0627\u0645\u0629<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Egypt is also known specifically for 3 things that make spending Ramadan there special:<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

1- Lanterns \u0627\u0644\u0641\u064e\u0648\u064e\u0627\u0646\u0650\u064a\u0633\u0652: <\/b>These refer a specific type of lamps (see photo above) that people hang in their houses. Also, regular lamps and lights can be seen in streets.<\/p>\n

2- Dawn Awakener “MesaHHarAaty” \u0627\u0644\u0645\u0633\u062d\u0631\u0627\u062a\u064a: <\/strong>This refers to a man (drummer) who roams streets and calls people to wake up for Suhoor \u0627\u0644\u0633\u062d\u0648\u0631 by stopping in front of their houses and calling their names. This habit is pretty much gone now.<\/p>\n

3- Tables of the most Merciful \u0645\u064e\u0648\u064e\u0627\u0626\u0650\u062f\u0652 \u0627\u0644\u0631\u0651\u064e\u062d\u0652\u0645\u064e\u0646\u0652: an initiative \u0645\u0628\u0627\u062f\u0631\u0629 <\/b>organised by (rich) people where food is served in streets around Iftaar time \u0641\u064a \u0648\u0642\u062a \u0627\u0644\u0625\u0641\u0637\u0627\u0631<\/strong> in order to support the poor \u0627\u0644\u0641\u0642\u0631\u0627\u0621,<\/strong>\u00a0and passengers\/ passersby \u0639\u0627\u0628\u0631\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0628\u064a\u0644 <\/strong>who won’t be able to break their fast at home.<\/p>\n
