Have you come across <\/span>Arabic numbers<\/b> \u0627\u0644\u0623\u0631\u0652\u0642\u0627\u0645 \u0627\u0644\u0639\u064e\u0631\u064e\u0628\u064a\u0651\u0629<\/b> and wondered why they are written in the masculine or feminine form or why some numbers don\u2019t fall into a certain pattern? Yes, there are <\/span>rules \u0642\u064e\u0648\u0627\u0639\u0650\u062f <\/b>to follow and I myself have sometimes gotten these number rules confused. Of course, in many cases, even if the way you used the number in a sentence is not grammatically correct, it will still be understood. But, if you wish to use the <\/span>\u0627\u0644\u0623\u0631\u0652\u0642\u0627\u0645 \u0627\u0644\u0639\u064e\u0631\u064e\u0628\u064a\u0651\u0629<\/b> correctly, it is worth the effort to understand and remember these rules. For part one, we\u2019ll be focusing on numbers 1 to 10.\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

You may have heard that the shape of numbers in many languages those being (<\/span>123\u2026<\/b>) are derived from Arabic numerals, while the current Arabic figures those being (<\/span>\u0661\u0662\u0663\u2026<\/b>), are a modified version of what were actually Indian numbers imported into Arabic through <\/span>trade relations \u0627\u0644\u0639\u0644\u0627\u0642\u0627\u062a \u0627\u0644\u062a\u062c\u0627\u0631\u064a\u0629<\/b>. If you visit an Arab country, you will find that <\/span>prices \u0627\u0644\u0623\u0633\u0639\u0627\u0631 <\/b>in stores, <\/span>advertisements \u0627\u0644\u0625\u0639\u0644\u0627\u0646\u0627\u062a<\/b>, <\/span>currency \u0627\u0644\u0639\u064f\u0645\u0652\u0644\u0629<\/b>, etc., will sometimes use the <\/span>123<\/b> figures and sometimes the <\/span>\u0661\u0662\u0663<\/b> figures, or both. Therefore, it is important to recognize the current Arabic figures.\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Let\u2019s first review the numbers from one to ten as figures and in written form.\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Try writing down your phone number in Arabic and saying the numbers aloud for practice. ?<\/span><\/h3>\n

Numbers, like the rest of Arabic, have gender. Remember how we add <\/span>\u062a\u0627\u0621 \u0645\u0631\u0628\u0648\u0637\u0629\u00a0 \u201cta\u2019 marbuta\u201d (\u0629)<\/b> to make words feminine? So, for example, <\/span>\u0648\u0627\u062d\u0650\u062f\u064c <\/b>becomes <\/span>\u0648\u0627\u062d\u0650\u062f\u064c\u0629<\/b>. Most of the numbers as you can see above, by default are feminine when counting, yet also have a masculine form. For example, <\/span>\u062b\u064e\u0644\u0627\u062b\u064e\u0629\u064c <\/b>becomes <\/span>\u062b\u064e\u0644\u0627\u062b<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

The number 2 is slightly different in that <\/span>\u0625\u062b\u0652\u0646\u0627\u0646\u0650 <\/b>becomes <\/span>\u0627\u0650\u062b\u0652\u0646\u064e\u062a\u064e\u0627\u0646<\/b>. We don\u2019t often use <\/span>\u0625\u062b\u0652\u0646\u0627\u0646\u0650\/\u0627\u0650\u062b\u0652\u0646\u064e\u062a\u064e\u0627\u0646<\/b> when attaching it to nouns. Can you guess why? How would you say \u201ctwo men\u201d in Arabic? \u201cMan\u201d in Arabic is <\/span>\u0631\u064e\u062c\u064f\u0644<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

We use the DUAL \ud83d\ude42 So we would just say <\/span>\u0631\u064e\u062c\u064f\u0644\u0627\u0646<\/b>. We could still say <\/span>\u0631\u064e\u062c\u064f\u0644\u064e\u0627\u0646 \u0627\u0650\u062b\u0652\u0646\u064e\u0627\u0646<\/b> of course.\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

?As our first rule, numbers 1 and 2 AGREE<\/strong> with the gender of the noun that comes BEFORE<\/strong> it.\u00a0<\/span>For example:<\/span><\/h3>\n
