The pattern for numbers <\/span><b>\u0661\u0663 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to <\/span><b>\u0661\u0669 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is exactly the same, for example: <\/span><b>\u062b\u0644\u0627\u062b\u0629 \u0639\u0634\u0631<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> being the feminine form and <\/span><b>\u062b\u0644\u0627\u062b \u0639\u0634\u0631<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> being the masculine. Just like numbers \u0661 and \u0662, there is a slightly different pattern for numbers <\/span><b>\u0661\u0661 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><b>\u0661\u0662<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Instead of saying <\/span><b>\u0648\u0627\u062d\u062f \u0639\u0634\u0631<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><b>\u0627\u062b\u0646\u0627\u0646 \u0639\u0634\u0631<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, we say <\/span><b>\u0623\u062d\u062f \u0639\u0634\u0631<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (masculine) <\/span><b>\u0625\u062d\u062f\u0649 \u0639\u0634\u0631\u0629<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (feminine) and <\/span><b>\u0625\u062b\u0646\u0627 \u0639\u0634\u0631 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(masculine) and <\/span><b>\u0627\u062b\u0646\u062a\u0627 \u0639\u0634\u0631\u0629 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(feminine).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rule for numbers <\/span><b>\u0661\u0661 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><b>\u0661\u0662<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">:\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Remember that these numbers consist of two parts: the first being <\/span><b>\u0623\u062d\u062f \/\u0625\u062b\u0646\u0627 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0and the second being <\/span><b>\u0639\u0634\u0631<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. These numbers have no feminine forms, Therefore, 60 boys is <\/span><b>\u064b\u0633\u062a\u0648\u0646\u064e \u0648\u0644\u062f\u0627<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and 60 girls is <\/span><b>\u064b\u0633\u062a\u0648\u0646\u064e \u0628\u0646\u062a\u0627<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When making numbers such as <\/span><b>\u0662\u0661\u066b\u0660\u0664\u0665\u066b\u0663\u0667<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> remember that in Arabic, we pronounce the additional number before the tens number unlike English. For example, in English we say \u201ctwenty three\u201d whereas Arabic says \u201cthree and twenty\u201d <\/span><b>\u062b\u0644\u0627\u062b\u0629 \u0648\u0639\u0634\u0631\u0648\u0646<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rule for numbers <\/span><b>\u0662\u0660 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to <\/span><b>\u0669\u0669<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">:\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Since the tens number does not have a feminine form, we look at the first part of the number which DISAGREES with the gender of the noun which comes AFTER the number.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For example:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: right\"><b>\u062e\u0645\u0633\u0629 \u0648\u0639\u0634\u0631\u0648\u0646 \u0631\u062c\u0644\u0627\u064b<\/b><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: right\"><b>\u062e\u0645\u0633 \u0648\u0639\u0634\u0631\u0648\u0646 \u0628\u0646\u062a\u0627\u064b<\/b><\/h3>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: right\">\u0661\u0660\u0660 <span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>\u0645\u0650\u0626\u064e\u0629 and \u0661\u0660\u0660\u0660 \u0623\u0644\u0641<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One hundred in Arabic is <strong>\u0645\u0650\u0626\u064e\u0629<\/strong> and one thousand is <\/span><b>\u0623\u0644\u0641<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. To say 200 or 2000 we use the dual making <\/span><b>\u0645\u0650\u0626\u064e\u0629 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">into <\/span><b>\u0645\u0650\u0626\u064e\u062a\u064e\u0627\u0646 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><b>\u0623\u0644\u0641 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">into <\/span><b>\u0623\u0644\u0641\u064a\u0646<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. We keep the same form for masculine and feminine nouns. <\/span><b>\u0645\u0650\u0626\u0629 \u0631\u064e\u062c\u064f\u0644<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><b>\u0623\u0644\u0641 \u0628\u0650\u0646\u062a<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The order in which we say numbers such as 103 is the same as in English <\/span><b>\u0645\u0650\u0626\u064e\u0629\u064c \u0648\u064e \u0648\u062b\u0644\u0627\u062b\u0629<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The rule here is that the last word in the number will agree or disagree in gender and the noun will either be in singular or plural form depending on that last word in the number.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For example, one hundred and five boys is <\/span><b>\u0645\u0650\u0626\u064e\u0629\u064c \u0648\u064e \u062e\u0645\u0633\u0629 \u0627\u0648\u0644\u0627\u062f<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Here <\/span><b>\u062e\u0645\u0633\u0629 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is the last word in the number. Since 3-9 disagree in gender and are followed by the plural noun, the noun is in the plural form and <\/span><b>\u062e\u0645\u0633\u0629 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is in the feminine form since it must disagree in gender.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Let\u2019s look at another example, one hundred and seventy-three boys is <\/span><b>\u0645\u0650\u0626\u0629\u064c \u0648\u064e \u062b\u064e\u0644\u064e\u0627\u062b\u064e\u0629\u064c \u0648\u064e \u0633\u0628\u0639\u0648\u0646 \u0648\u064e\u0644\u064e\u062f\u0627\u064b<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Indeed I saw in a dream eleven stars\u2026\u201d [12:4]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2728After reviewing all these number rules while trying to phrase them as simply and clearly as possible, I realized that no matter what, if you wish to use Arabic numbers in their grammatically correct forms, you\u2019d have to carefully study these rules, which takes some effort. As I mentioned in the previous post, it depends on how deep you want to go. You may be at a stage in your Arabic learning, where just knowing the Arabic numbers and the correct order in which to say them is enough. Or, you enjoy knowing the exact rules and how they are used in for example Quranic verses or scholarly texts.
