As well as being an important writer, he was an expert <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u062e\u0628\u064a\u0631<\/strong><\/span> on the Arab culture. He is considered a landmark in the cinema and literature and is compared to Naguib Mahfouz <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u0646\u062c\u064a\u0628 \u0645\u062d\u0641\u0648\u0638<\/strong><\/span> and Yusuf Idris <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u064a\u0648\u0633\u0641 \u0627\u062f\u0631\u064a\u0633<\/strong><\/span> . He spent most of his life as a civil servant until he rose to become adviser to the National Library of Egypt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Yehia Haqqi was born on January 7<sup>th<\/sup> 1905 in the Sayyida Zeinab district of Cairo. He graduated in Law <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u0627\u0644\u0642\u0627\u0646\u0648\u0646<\/strong><\/span> in 1925 a nd worked for a short time as a lawyer <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u0645\u064f\u062d\u0627\u0645\u0649<\/strong><\/span> . In 1929, he began his career as a diplomat <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u062f\u0628\u0644\u0648\u0645\u0627\u0633\u064a<\/strong><\/span> and he worked abroad for more than 20 years. The time he spent in France <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u0641\u0631\u0646\u0633\u0627<\/strong><\/span> , Italy <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u0627\u064a\u0637\u0627\u0644\u064a\u0627<\/strong><\/span> , Turkey <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u062a\u0631\u0643\u064a\u0627<\/strong><\/span> and Libya <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u0644\u064a\u0628\u064a\u0627<\/strong><\/span> gave him experiences which he later used in his writings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 At the same time as he was working, Haqqi was writing stories. His first short story, published in 1925, established his name as one of the great short story writers of the Arab world. He wrote many articles \u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u0645\u0642\u0627\u0644\u0627\u062a<\/strong><\/span> and short stories and won many awards. From 1961 to 1971, he was editor of the literary magazine; Al-Majallah <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u0627\u0644\u0645\u062c\u0644\u0629<\/strong><\/span> .<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Haqqi always wanted to help poor and disabled people. He had to go to hospital after an earthquake <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u0632\u0644\u0632\u0627\u0644<\/strong><\/span> in Cairo, but gave his bed to a poor person who he thought needed it more. In 1955, he wrote a collection of short stories about the poor <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u0627\u0644\u0641\u0642\u0631\u0627\u0621<\/strong><\/span> and the disabled <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u0627\u0644\u0645\u0639\u0627\u0642\u064a\u0646<\/strong><\/span> which won an important prize. Another of his stories; The Postman <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u0627\u0644\u0628\u0648\u0633\u0637\u062c\u0649<\/strong><\/span> or <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u0633\u0627\u0639\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0628\u0631\u064a\u062f<\/strong><\/span> , was made into a film.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Haqqi wrote in a new way about the Arab society <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u0627\u0644\u0645\u062c\u062a\u0645\u0639<\/strong><\/span> and customs <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u0627\u0644\u0639\u0627\u062f\u0627\u062a<\/strong><\/span> in the twentieth century. He was also interested in the Arabic Language and he developed a new style <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>\u0623\u0633\u0644\u0648\u0628<\/strong><\/span> of writing which is still respected today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 As well as writing his own novels and stories, Haqqi also translated Russian, French, Italian and Turkish literature into Arabic.
