\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Arabic proverbs reflect the beauty of the Arabic Language and the wisdom of the Arabs and their culture. In Egypt, these proverbs are part of everyone’s daily routine. There is no one \u00a0single situation that would not have the perfect proverb tailored for it. Just for the sake of fun, I am going to share some of these famous proverbs. If you are living in Egypt, you will probably recognize them right away, but if you live outside Egypt, most likely you will have a smile on your face. These proverbs are in the Egyptian dialect.<\/p>\n

Literal Translation:<\/span> When fortune smiles, it makes the blindman a watchmaker.<\/p>\n

Hidden meaning:<\/span> Luck makes the unhappy happy.<\/p>\n

Applicability:<\/span> To describe a positive and sudden change in someone’s life.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Literal Translation:<\/span> A mirror to your face, and a\u00a0 thorn\u00a0 behind your back.<\/p>\n

Hidden meaning:<\/span> A double-faced person<\/p>\n

Applicability:<\/span> To describe a person who pretends to be your friend then hurts you when you’re not looking.<\/p>\n

Hidden Meaning:<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0Don’t be deceived by people’s appearance.<\/p>\n

Applicability:<\/span> to describe a person after they uncover their bad personality.<\/p>\n

Hidden Meaning:<\/span>\u00a0 Live and enjoy the moment. Don’t wait for tomorrow.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Applicability:<\/span> To advise a person not to gamble.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Literal Translation:<\/span> Give the bread to its bakers.<\/p>\n

Hidden Meaning:<\/span>\u00a0 Take the advice from experts only.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Applicability:<\/span> to advise a person to listen to and obey only the wise and experts.<\/p>\n

\/ el-maktoob ala el-gebeen lazim teshofo el-‘een \/<\/span><\/p>\n

Literal translation:<\/span> What’s written on the forehead (i.e., one’s destiny) is to be seen by the eye.<\/p>\n

Hidden meaning:<\/span> One will inevitably meet one’s destiny<\/p>\n

Applicability:<\/span> What is predestined is predestined. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Hidden meaning:<\/span> Kids inherit their parents’ good qualities.<\/p>\n

Applicability:<\/span> Words of praise for a promising kid. (same as English “a chip of the old block”)<\/p>\n

Applicability:<\/span> Distance makes us forget old friendships \/ relationships.<\/p>\n
