The capital of the Umayyad caliphate was Damascus, and during the Umayyad rule, the Islamic state extended to include new territories in Asia, Africa, as well as Andaluc\u00eda in Spain and Portugal.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">The Umayyad Caliphate (<\/span><span dir=\"rtl\" style=\"font-size: 15pt;\"><span dir=\"rtl\" style=\"font-size: 15pt;\">\u0627\u0644\u062e\u0644\u0627\u0641\u0629<\/span><\/span><span dir=\"rtl\" style=\"font-size: 15pt;\">\u0627\u0644\u0623\u0645\u0648\u064a\u0629<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">) began 6 months after the death of the last <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rightly Guided Caliph Ali Ibn Abi Talib (<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15pt; color: #000000;\">\u0639\u0644\u064a \u0628\u0646 \u0623\ufe91\ufef2 \u0637\u0627\u0644\u0628<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">),<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> with the rule ofMu\u2019aweya Ibn Abi Sufyan (<\/span><\/span><span dir=\"rtl\" style=\"font-size: 15pt;\">\u0645\u0639\u0627\u0648\u064a\u0629 \u0628\u0646 \u0623\u0628\u064a \u0633\u0641\u064a\u0627\u0646<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">)<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"> in the year 661 <sub>AD<\/sub>.Mu\u2019aweya\u2019s time was marked by peace, prosperity and expansion of the Islamic state to new territories. He established the first navy in the history of Islam and managed to conquer the islands of Crete and Rhodes. During the rule of his son, Yazid (<\/span><\/span><span dir=\"rtl\" style=\"font-size: 15pt;\">\u064a\u0632\u064a\u062f<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">), unrest happened between him and supporters of Al-Hussayn Ibn Ali (<\/span><span dir=\"rtl\" style=\"font-size: 15pt;\">\u0627\u0644\u062d\u0633\u064a\u0646 \u0628\u0646 \u0639\u0644\u064a<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">)<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15pt;\">\u200e<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"> who opposed his succession, which was known as the second Fitna. Al-Hussayn was killed in the Battle of Karbala (<\/span><\/span><span dir=\"rtl\" style=\"font-size: 15pt;\">\u0643\u0631\u0628\u0644\u0627\u0621<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">). This battle is considered to be a milestone in the history of the Shiite sect.\u00a0 Yazid pursued his opponents to Medina and Mecca, besieged Mecca and destroyed the Kaaba. He died during the siege and was succeeded by his son Marwan who, along with his successors, tried to assert the Umayyad rule and to eliminate opposition. At the time of the Umayyads, the first Islamic coin was introduced, and <\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">the Dome of the Rock was constructed in Jerusalem. Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz (<\/span><\/span><span dir=\"rtl\" style=\"font-size: 15pt;\">\u0639\u0645\u0631 \u0628\u0646 \u0639\u0628\u062f \u0627\u0644\u0639\u0632\u064a\u0632<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u200e<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">) was interested in internal reform. He introduced a new taxation system and the application of Sharia.
