(More on this scientific institution on this post: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/arabic\/the-house-of-wisdom-the-leadership-of-a-scientific-think-thank-of-the-arab-world\/\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The House of Wisdom: The Leadership of a Scientific \u201cThink Tank\u201d of the Arab World<\/span><\/a><strong>.<\/strong>&#8220;)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The majority of the data available in these works is related to extreme climatic conditions, such as<strong> \u0645\u0648\u062c\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0627\u062a \u0627\u0644\u062d\u0631\u0627\u0631\u0629<\/strong> (heat waves), <strong>\u0639\u0648\u0627\u0635\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0641\u00a0<\/strong>(storms), <strong>\u0627\u0644\u062c\u0641\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0627\u0641\u00a0<\/strong>(drought),\u00a0and <strong>\u0627\u0644\u0641\u064a\u0636\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0627\u0646\u0627\u062a\u00a0<\/strong>(floods.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">But that is not all: These books also provide precious details on natural phenomena that were little understood until then, such as <strong>\u0639\u0648\u0627\u0635\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0641 <strong>\u0627\u0644\u0628\u0631\u064e\u062f<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(hailstorms), the freezing of rivers such as the Tigris in Baghdad, and extreme cases of snow in the desert regions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">All these conditions were carefully studied in the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/arabic\/ibn-fadlan-meet-a-world-class-international-arab-man-of-mystery\/\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Abbasid<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0capital, <strong>\u0628\u063a\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u062f\u0627\u062f<\/strong> (Baghdad), which was then, as the director of the scientific study rightfully points out, &#8220;a centre for trade, commerce and science in the ancient Islamic world.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Daily Mail article reports that in <strong>891 AD<\/strong>, the renown geographer <strong>Al Yaqubi<\/strong>, which the British newspaper\u00a0wrongfully presents as a <strong>Berber<\/strong> (only because his <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ya%27qubi\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Wikipedia article says so<\/span><\/a>! He was in fact a native Baghdadi), wrote that Baghdad City had no rival in the world. It had hot summers and cold winters, both ideal climatic conditions that ensured\u00a0<strong>\u0641\u0650\u0644\u0627\u064e\u062d\u064e\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0629 \u0642\u064e\u0648\u0650\u064a\u064e\u0651\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0629<\/strong>\u00a0(a strong agriculture.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Despite the terrifying Mongol invasion of the region in the 13th century, during which the\u00a0waters of\u00a0<strong>\u0646\u0647\u0631 \u062f\u062c\u0644\u0629<\/strong>\u00a0(the\u00a0Tigris\u00a0river) turned black from the ink of the millions of books flung into its midst by the invading soldiers, some valuable meteorological information\u00a0survived in the works of scholars such as <strong>\u0627\u0628\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0623\u062b\u064a\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0631<\/strong>\u00a0(Ibn Al Athir) and <strong>\u0627\u0644\u0637\u064e\u0651\u0628\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0631\u064a\u00a0<\/strong>(Al Tabari), in addition to later writers such as\u00a0<strong>\u0627\u0644\u0633\u064f\u0651\u064a\u064f\u0648\u0637\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u064a<\/strong> (Al Suyuti.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The first results of the study reveal that a cold wave occurred in the first half of the 10th century, including\u00a0&#8220;a significant drop of temperatures during <strong>July AD 920<\/strong>, and three separate recordings of snowfall: in <strong>908<\/strong>, <strong>944<\/strong> and <strong>1007<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The kind of information that leaves many Baghdadis quite speechless today, since &#8220;the only record of snow in modern Baghdad was in <strong>2008<\/strong>, a unique experience in the living memories of Iraqis&#8221;!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Dr Dom\u00ednguez-Castro<\/strong>, the head of the research study, said that &#8220;these signs of a sudden cold period confirm suggestions of a temperature drop during the tenth century, immediately before the Medieval Warm Period.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;We believe the drop in <strong>July AD 920<\/strong> may have been linked to a great volcanic eruption but more work would be necessary to confirm this idea,&#8221; he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0Further studies based on these results will enable scientists to better understand the reasons behind our weird <strong>\u062a\u063a\u064a\u064f\u0651\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0631 \u0645\u0646\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0627\u062e\u064a<\/strong> (climate change) today, and the challenges it poses to the planet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Snow in Baghdad!  11 January 2008\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zMpNbUqAmFI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> <strong>He befriended Iraqis and was amazed by their country, especially under the snow:<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> &#8220;<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Cool!
