{"id":5572,"date":"2012-06-21T15:46:02","date_gmt":"2012-06-21T15:46:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/arabic\/?p=5572"},"modified":"2021-08-05T20:11:09","modified_gmt":"2021-08-05T20:11:09","slug":"the-arabic-football-team-that-defeated-germany-in-world-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/arabic\/the-arabic-football-team-that-defeated-germany-in-world-cup\/","title":{"rendered":"The Arabic Football Team that Defeated Germany in World Cup!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>When you watch the incredibly powerful performance of the German Football team in the ongoing Euro 2012, you&#8217;d probably think that no Arab team could ever dream of beating such high-caliber players as Podolski, Schweinsteiger,\u00a0Lahm, and Gomez.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>But thirty years ago, almost day for day, the best team representing the Arab world,\u00a0\u0627\u0644\u062c\u0632\u0627\u0626\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0631 (Algeria), did just that, defeating in a World Cup an even stronger German Football team, possibly the best selection Germany has ever had in its entire Football history!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>With world-class players of its own, Algeria would have been able to go very far in the 1982 World tournament organized by Spain, were it not for the infamous collusion between \u0623\u0644\u0645\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0627\u0646\u064a\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0627 (Germany) and its Germanophone neighbor, \u0627\u0644\u0646\u064e\u0651\u0645\u0633\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0627 (Austria.)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Algeria&#8217;s participation in that World Cup rewrote the rules of future Football competitions: Afterwards, in order to avoid fiascos similar to the so-called &#8220;Game of Shame&#8221; between Germany and Austria at the expense of Algeria, FIFA made it mandatory for all final group matches to take place at exactly the same time!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>Prior to the first whistle of the Tournament, whenever German players were asked about their game opposing them to <strong>Algeria<\/strong> in the <strong>1982 World Cup<\/strong>, rumor had it that they all had very optimistic declarations to make: &#8220;I&#8217;ll dedicate a goal to my wife&#8221;, said one striker. &#8220;I&#8217;ll score a goal for my girlfriend&#8221;, said another. &#8220;I think I&#8217;ll even score a goal for my puppy in that day&#8221;, joked a <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/german\/\">Deutsch<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>midfielder.<\/p>\n<p>But on <strong>June 16th<\/strong> of that year, the &#8220;cakewalk match&#8221; that the Germans expected to enjoy did not exactly take place in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/spanish\/\">Spanish<\/a><\/strong> city of\u00a0<strong>Gij\u00f3n<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>The Algerian squad, known as &#8220;<strong>\u062b\u0639\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0627\u0644\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0628<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>\u0627\u0644\u0635\u064e\u0651\u062d\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0631\u0627\u0621<\/strong>&#8221; (&#8220;<strong>The Desert Foxes<\/strong>&#8220;), and sometimes as &#8220;<strong>The Fennecs<\/strong>&#8220;, managed to shock the world by beating the strong German selection by a score of <strong>2<\/strong>&#8211;<strong>1<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Alg\u00e9rie RFA 1982 1er but\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/geo.dailymotion.com\/player.html?video=xffj0&#038;\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; means &#8220;<strong>Victor<\/strong>&#8221; in Arabic) assured that his teammates and him played <strong>\u062f\u0648\u0646<\/strong> <strong>\u0639\u064c\u0642\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u062f\u0629<\/strong> (without complex), and won that match with their own brand of Football.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Algerie RFA 2eme but\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/geo.dailymotion.com\/player.html?video=xffqu&#038;\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u00a0\u0647\u062f\u0641 \u0627\u0644\u062a\u064e\u0651\u0639\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0627\u062f\u0644 (equalizer goal) for Germany by <strong>Karl-Heinz\u00a0<\/strong>Rummenigge, followed immediately by\u00a0\u0647\u062f\u0641 \u0627\u0644\u0641\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0648\u0632 (winning goal) for Algeria by the great Belloumi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the wake of the exceptional game against Germany, the Desert Foxes conceded one game to <strong>Austria<\/strong>, by a score of <strong>2-0<\/strong>, but then recovered in the last game against <strong>Chile<\/strong>, winning <strong>3-2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The two wins were normally enough for Algeria to qualify to the next phase of the World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>But<strong> \u0623\u0645\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0631 \u063a\u064a\u0631 \u0645\u064f\u062a\u0648\u064e\u0642\u064e\u0651\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0639<\/strong>\u00a0(something unexpected) happened the next day.<\/p>\n<p>The the two neighbors, Germany and Austria, who were otherwise old traditional football rivals, cynically colluded to ensure that they both end up tops of their group, at the expense of Algeria.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>That move was deemed so ugly that, to this day, it is still remembered as &#8220;<em><strong>Die<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><strong><em>Schande von Gij\u00f3n<\/em>&#8220;<\/strong>\u00a0(German for &#8220;<strong>The\u00a0Disgrace of Gij\u00f3n<\/strong>&#8220;), and sometimes as the &#8220;<em><strong>Anschluss<\/strong><\/em>&#8221; (allusion to the <strong>1938<\/strong> annexation of <strong>Austria<\/strong> by\u00a0<strong>Nazi Germany<\/strong>.)<\/p>\n<p>That is how, shortly after,\u00a0<strong>FIFA <\/strong>made it mandatory for all final group matches to take place at exactly the same time!<\/p>\n<p>Although the Algerian victory over Germany of <strong>1982<\/strong> is still widely famous among Football fans around the world, only a few know that it was not the first one of its kind: In fact, Algeria had already played and defeated Germany <strong>2-0<\/strong> in an official game back in <strong>1964<\/strong>, only two years after the country gained back its independence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Zineddine Zidane, holding a picture of the FLN <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/arabic\/%D8%A3%D9%8E%D9%86%D9%8E%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D8%A7-%D9%87%D9%8E%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80%D9%80\/\">Football<\/a> team, which counted several players of talent, like \u0631\u0634\u064a\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u062f \u0645\u062e\u0644\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0648\u0641\u064a (Rachid Makhloufi) and \u0645\u0635\u0637\u0641\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0649 \u0632\u064a\u062a\u0648\u0646\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u0640\u064a (Mostapha Zitouni), who famously defected from the French national team right after its qualification to the 1958 World Cup in Sweden, in order to join the Algerian Independence War \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>early Algerian<\/strong> <strong>team<\/strong> counted several players of talent, such as <strong>Ahmed Ouedjani<\/strong> (one of the goal scorers in the 1964 game versus Germany.)
