In Arabic, there are 10 verb forms that can be formed from each root. The root usually consists of 3 letters, and verb forms are made up of different patterns involving a given root. Some forms are used for a given root while others are not. Verb forms are usually indicated by roman numerals in English. <\/span><\/p>\n

Form I (<\/span><\/strong>\u064a\u064e\u0641\u0639\u0644\u064f<\/span><\/strong>\/\u0641\u0639\u0644\u064e<\/span><\/span><\/strong>)<\/span><\/strong> is the most basic form of the verb; it consists of the 3-lettered root only, e.g. (<\/span>\u0639\u0645\u0644<\/span>) worked, (<\/span>\u062d\u0645\u0644<\/span>) carried, (<\/span>\u062f\u0631\u0633<\/span>) studied, (<\/span>\u0642\u0637\u0639<\/span>) cut. All verb forms of a given root are usually related to the root in form and meaning. They should have the 3 letters of the root in their form, and they should have the basic meaning of the root in addition to some other predictable senses.<\/span><\/p>\n

It also serves to make the action seem more intense, e.g. (<\/span>\u0642\u0637\u0639<\/span>) cut and (<\/span>\u0642\u0637\u0651\u0639<\/span>) chopped, (<\/span>\u0643\u0633\u0631<\/span>) broke and (<\/span>\u0643\u0633\u0651\u0631<\/span>) smashed. <\/span><\/p>\n

Form III(<\/span><\/strong>\u0641\u0627\u0639\u0644\/\u064a\u0641\u0627\u0639\u0650\u0644\u064f) <\/span><\/strong>sually indicated participation, i.e. the action is done by more than one participant, e.g. (<\/span>\u0634\u0627\u0631\u0643<\/span>) shared; (<\/span>\u0631\u0627\u0633\u0644<\/span>) corresponded and (<\/span>\u0642\u0627\u062a\u0644<\/span>) fought. <\/span><\/p>\n

Form IV(<\/span><\/strong>\u0623\u0641\u0639\u064e\u0644\u064e\/ \u064a\u064f\u0641\u0639\u0650\u0644\u064f) <\/span><\/strong>usually makes an intransitive verb transitive and a transitive verb doubly transitive, e.g. (<\/span>\u0623\u0639\u0644\u0645<\/span>) informed; (<\/span>\u0623\u0644\u0628\u0633<\/span>) dressed and (<\/span>\u0623\u0631\u0633\u0644<\/span>) sent. <\/span><\/p>\n
