First, allow me to remind of the cases in which we have fronted predicates and what conditions need to exist in a sentence so that it has a fronted predicate.<\/p>\n<p>We have a fronted predicate when the subject of the sentence is indefinite and the predicate is a prepositions phrase or the expression (\u0647\u0646\u0627\u0643), e.g.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"rtl\">\u0647\u0646\u0627\u0643 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0637\u0644\u0627\u0628<\/span> \u0643\u062b\u064a\u0631\u0648\u0646 \u0641\u064a \u0627\u0644\u062c\u0627\u0645\u0639\u0629.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"rtl\">\u0641\u064a \u0627\u0644\u062c\u0627\u0645\u0639\u0629 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0637\u0644\u0627\u0628<\/span> \u0643\u062b\u064a\u0631\u0648\u0646.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are many students at the university.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The underlined words are the subjects. Also consider the following examples expressing possession.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"rtl\">\u0639\u0646\u062f\u064a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0628\u064a\u062a<\/span> \u0643\u0628\u064a\u0631.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"rtl\">\u0644\u064a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u062b\u0644\u0627\u062b\u0629<\/span> \u0625\u062e\u0648\u0629.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"rtl\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You can place these expressions in the past or the future timeframe using the appropriate form of verb to be:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"rtl\">\u0643\u0627\u0646 \u0647\u0646\u0627\u0643 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0637\u0644\u0627\u0628<\/span> \u0643\u062b\u064a\u0631\u0648\u0646 \u0641\u064a \u0627\u0644\u062c\u0627\u0645\u0639\u0629.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"rtl\">\u0633\u064a\u0643\u0648\u0646 \u0639\u0646\u062f\u064a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">\u0628\u064a\u062a<\/span> \u0643\u0628\u064a\u0631.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"rtl\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now look at the paragraph below and try to find the fronted predicates and their subjects. The context is about gatherings of literary people and writers in Egypt at the beginning of the twentieth century. It is in the past tense.
