Perhaps one of the best spots is <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/better-know-a-province-part-one\/\">Sichuan province<\/a> &#8211; home to some of the country&#8217;s most stunning national parks, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/chinas-great-culinary-traditions-western-cuisine\/\">mouth-numbingly spicy cuisine<\/a>, and of course the adorable giant pandas. In my 5+ years of living and traveling in China, one of my favorite experiences was taking a 2-week backpacking trip around Sichuan. Here&#8217;s a little rundown of our trip, with plenty of videos to get you excited about traveling there:<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Chengdu (\u6210\u90fd &#8211; ch\u00e9ng d\u016b)<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_12147\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12147\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12147\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2016\/04\/6-DSC_0116.jpg\" alt=\"Pandas!\" width=\"600\" height=\"402\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2016\/04\/6-DSC_0116.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2016\/04\/6-DSC_0116-350x235.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-12147\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pandas!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>With a major airport and train station in the provincial capital of Chengdu, it makes the most sense to start your trip there. There&#8217;s a lot to do in this big city, so it&#8217;s best to give yourself a couple of days here to take it all in. Spend a morning wandering around the <strong>People&#8217;s Park<\/strong> (\u4eba\u6c11\u516c\u56ed &#8211; r\u00e9n m\u00edn g\u014dng yu\u00e1n) and <strong>Tianfu Square<\/strong> (\u5929\u5e9c\u5e7f\u573a &#8211; ti\u0101n f\u01d4 gu\u01ceng ch\u01ceng) to take in a bit of the local culture.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Chengdu (\u6210\u90fd) - People&#039;s Park and Tianfu Square\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1zgRDLFyG7g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In the evening, make sure you catch a performance of <strong>Sichuan opera<\/strong> (\u5ddd\u5267 &#8211; chu\u0101n j\u00f9). The show features dance, acrobatics, comedy, and the famous face-changing.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sichuan Opera (\u5ddd\u5267)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VKP3IfZIhT4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Without a doubt, the highlight of any visit to Chengdu is a trip out to the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base. Once an important stop on the <strong>Tea Horse Road<\/strong> (\u8336\u9a6c\u53e4\u9053 &#8211; ch\u00e1 m\u01ce g\u01d4 d\u00e0o), this riverside town is a nice place to relax and explore for a day or two.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ping Le Ancient Town (\u5e73\u4e50\u53e4\u9547)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NPhINixBZmo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The town itself is a bit touristy, popular with urbanites who flock here on the weekend to experience a bit of rural life. Outside of town, you can visit the <strong>Li Family Courtyard<\/strong> (\u674e\u5bb6\u5927\u9662 &#8211; l\u01d0 ji\u0101 d\u00e0 yu\u00e0n) to see a Qing Dynasty-era home and fully functioning farm. A great option for your visit is staying in a Tibetan guesthouse in one of the villages. Those seeking to really get out there and experience nature in Sichuan should consider the epic <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/jiuzhaigou-ecotourism\/\">Zharu Valley hike<\/a>. There are one, two, and three day options for the hike. Known for its colorful pools formed by calcite deposits, a visit here is a walk in the park compared to the Zharu Valley trek. From here, you can even fly direct to Beijing, Shanghai, or Xi&#8217;an.
