You can get there by bus, subway, or taxi, so take your pick. On a clear day, there isn\u2019t much that beats hanging out at the Summer Palace. Featuring gardens, temples, and a lake, this massive palace was where the emperor would escape the intense summer heat of Beijing. During the warmer months, you can even rent a boat to take a spin around the lake. Whatever you do, be sure to head to the top of the Tower of Buddhist Incense to take in the views.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Wudaokou<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_10192\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2014\/07\/DSC_0087.jpg\" aria-label=\"DSC 0087\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10192\" class=\"wp-image-10192\"  alt=\"A table full of food at Meat Table.\" width=\"600\" height=\"403\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2014\/07\/DSC_0087.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2014\/07\/DSC_0087.jpg 640w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2014\/07\/DSC_0087-350x235.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-10192\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A table full of food at Meat Table.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Forego eating in the expensive restaurant inside the Summer Palace and instead jump on buss 331 or 375 and take it to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/top-10-places-in-beijing-wudaokou\/\"><strong>Wudakou<\/strong><\/a> (\u4e94\u9053\u53e3 &#8211; w\u01d4 d\u00e0o k\u01d2u), known by many simply as &#8220;The Wu.&#8221; This student hangout is home to China\u2019s top universities, as well as plenty of great restaurants. For Chinese, we highly recommend a little spot called <strong>Lanzhou Old Horse Beef Noodles<\/strong> (\u5170\u5dde\u8001\u9a6c\u725b\u8089\u62c9\u9762 &#8211; l\u00e1n zh\u014du l\u01ceo m\u01ce ni\u00fa r\u00f2u l\u0101 mi\u00e0n), more commonly referred to amongst our friends as \u201cMeat Table.\u201d Don\u2019t let our silly nickname throw you off \u2013 this place is cheap and delicious, and it\u2019s definitely a legit local favorite. Even after 5+ years of living and traveling around the country, it&#8217;s still <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/my-favorite-meal-in-china\/\">my favorite meal in China<\/a>. If you\u2019re looking for something else, you can also find \u00bd price sushi at Isshin, sandwiches and burgers at Lush, pizza at Sugar Shack, or burritos at La Bamba.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Temple Hopping<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_12480\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2016\/08\/1-DSC_0162.jpg\" aria-label=\"1 DSC 0162\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12480\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12480\"  alt=\"The beautiful Lama Temple.\" width=\"600\" height=\"402\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2016\/08\/1-DSC_0162.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2016\/08\/1-DSC_0162.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2016\/08\/1-DSC_0162-350x235.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12480\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The beautiful Lama Temple.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>From the Wu, you can hop on the subway and take it to the <strong>Lama Temple<\/strong> (\u96cd\u548c\u5bab &#8211; y\u014dng h\u00e9 g\u014dng) station on line 2. Head in and check out this impressive Tibetan Buddhist monastery, which features a 26-meter tall wooden statue of the Maitreya Buddha. From there, it&#8217;s an easy walk to the <strong>Confucius Temple<\/strong> (\u5b54\u5e99 &#8211; k\u01d2ng mi\u00e0o). This is the second largest Confucian temple in China, behind only the one in Master Kong&#8217;s hometown of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/qufu-hometown-of-confucius\/\">Qufu<\/a>. Cruise down any of these and get lost in old Beijing for a while. If you get deep enough into the <em>hutong<\/em>, it\u2019s hard to imagine you\u2019re still in the middle of an overcrowded, bustling metropolis. After a few hours of exploring, you\u2019re bound to get hungry. Thankfully, there\u2019s no shortage of great restaurants in the surrounding <em>hutong<\/em>. Should you find yourself on Wudaoying, you\u2019ve got a great vegetarian spot in the Veggie Table, a quaint courtyard with the Vineyard, and some incredible Mexican food at Sand Pebbles Lounge. Any night of the week, you\u2019re sure to find people hanging out with drinks or rocking out at a show. Beijing has a variety of venues large and small, and there\u2019s always something going on in terms of live music. From rock, to jazz, to drum &amp; bass, to folk, you\u2019re sure to find a place to get down. Some of our favorite spots for live music are: Temple Bar, 4 Corners, Salud, Jianghu, and Yugong Yishan.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thus ends an amazing 3-day trip to Beijing. If you have the luxury of time and can spend a few more days exploring the city, there&#8217;s still tons to see and do. Consider checking out the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/798-beijing\/\">798 Art District<\/a>, visiting a few more <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/top-10-places-in-beijing-local-parks\/\">local parks<\/a>, or even getting out of the concrete jungle on a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/chinese\/5-awesome-beijing-day-trips\/\">day trip<\/a>. Despite the smog, the traffic, and the crowds, Beijing is an incredible city.
